This is where you go to hear the best world beat music the city has to offer.

The Scene
You'll discover visiting performers from Africa such as Four Stars and Diblo Dibala, who belt out soukous, Afro beat, highlife and juju--all variations of the African-roots-meets-Western-influence music known as world beat. Expect to party to the tempo of Caribbean musicians who perform soca, calypso, reggae and salsa.
The Bar
At the bar, Nigerian Gulder and Star (Nigerian beers), compete with Heineken and Guiness for patron dollars. Sample one of the exotic Nigerian brews, along with a snack called sooyah, which is like spicy shish kebab. If you're too shy to dance, you'll be mesmerized by sensuous African music videos playing on the big-screen TV. On weekends, global rhythms blast away on giant speakers and beckon patrons to the dance floor. Colored lights blaze and a mirrored disco ball hangs from the ceiling. Garb here is definitely African-influenced. On the walls of this spacious Uptown basement hangs a portrait of former South African President Nelson Mandela alongside a mural of the late Afro-beat king Fela Kuti.
