Brutal - Stick to the Clybourn Location!

by chrisegilbert

I don't know how there could be such a big difference in the two Goose Island restaurants - they share the same (or very close to the same) menu. While the Goose Island in Wrigleyville is larger and has a nice setup for watching the NFL games, the staff is off and the food preparation is horrible compared to the Clybourn location. The turkey burger we were served was not close to being done and the fish (part of fish and chips) needed literally about 5 more minutes in the fryer. While the manager took the items off the bill, our server initially was skeptical of our assertion and insisted that the burger and fish were supposed to be undercooked. This experience will also teach me a fine lesson - never pick an item off the menu by saying the following right before ordering: "Wow, I can't remember the last time I had (insert menu item)." The beer, artichoke dip, and Paulina Market meat platter were naturally excellent as they always are. I love Goose Island but recommend the Clybourn location. It?s worth noting - I'm not one to give many negative reviews - I keep those opinions to myself rather than try to negatively influence others. However, with all that has been said, I felt this review necessary.

  • Pros: TV's everywhere, size, location, beer, Paulina Market meat platter
  • Cons: food, service, parking

great beer and food

by emilystrikesagain

i was pleasantly surprised by goose island. i was wary based on its location alone- i try to avoid wrigleyville bars/restaurants at all cost. we went on a wednesday around 7, so there was no cubs game and there were hardly any people there (probably why i had such a great experience). i like goose island beer, so that was an immediate plus, and their food was surprisingly great.

  • Pros: attentive service, great beer, good food
  • Cons: parking, i imagine it's insane during cubs games/weekends

Best Beer in Chicago

by okichich

The place is very large, which is perfect given its location, and the beer is out of this world. The food is your average pub fare. Definately a must if you are into more than just Miller Lite.

  • Pros: GOOD BEER!
  • Cons: can be crowded if the cubbies are playing

This expansive brewpub just steps from the ballpark satisfies fans of the Cubs, specialty beers and above-average bar eats.

The Scene
Opened in 1999 to augment the original Lincoln Park location, this rambling, multileveled spot relies on class over character. A beautiful wooden bar, TVs of all sizes in every direction, a "legends of baseball" mural and several dining areas comprise the space. The large back patio features a view of Wrigley Field.

The Draw
Pub grub with a twist--many items incorporate the bar's specialty brews. The Waveland melt, a griddled Black Angus burger, exceeds the ordinary with a tantalizing combination of onions grilled in beer, mushrooms and dressing on rye. Cod coated in Honker's Ale batter is also on the highly recommended list. Appetizer options include Blonde Ale cheese fondue, fried calamari marinated in Honker's Ale, veggie chili and zesty house-made potato chips. Nine house brews are rotated on tap throughout the year. Those looking for cozier dining should request a seat in the back dining area.

Great Bar Food

by CubbieBugs

This is possibly the best bar food I've ever had. Awesome burgers, great specials and good apps. They really try and put their own stamp on their food, rather than have it taste like ever other bar within walking distance of the Wrigleyville location. I'm not a fan of pork, but the pulled-pork sandwiches are really good. Having said that, it is bar food so don't expect anything too upscale. It is a bar. A lot of fun during Cubs season, a lot of out-of-town fans eat there.

  • Pros: food, beer, size
  • Cons: loud

Big and Loud

by peterbehle_citysearch

The beer's always good and the pub-style food is better than average. Plus, this place is loud and perfect for kids -- you don't have to worry about them making too much noise.

  • Pros: Great beer
  • Cons: Too loud?
