by teresar
Great place to get together with friends for drinks, food and to watch sports.
- Pros: Margaritas are real good! GREAT CARNE ASADAS!
- Cons: wish they were closer to where I live.
Great food!

Something must have changed.....older reviews comment on bad, spicy food. I don't like spicy food and I loved this! Had a combo platter and every thing tasted different, not all the same. Great drinks. Husband had a daquiri and was the best he ever had. Friendly waitress and all staff attentive. Fun to people watch over the balcony.
- Pros: very tasty food and lots of people having fun
- Cons: loud
Good food better Ritas!
by srmarie
I used to hate the food here. Not sure if there was a ownership change or a new chef/staff but my lunch Sat was delicious. Steak fajitas came out hot and tons of meat and veggies. Our waitress was very attentive and the bussers were constantlly clearing glasses and plates and re-filling our water...which you need for the STRONG ritas! I will go back again aand again.
- Pros: Yummy salsa/ Ritas!/ and Good People Watching
Bad Bad Service
by chicagolee
waitresses/bar staff seemed ot only be paying attention to members of the opposite sex that were their own age. BAr maid kept our change without asking. Margaritas were good, but I've had better.. Okay--but they need ot send their staff to customer service training.
- Cons: Bad Service
Named for the plant used to make tequila, this Mexican cantina is known for its powerful margaritas.

Papier-mâché toucans add a south-of-the-border feel to the long, U-shaped bar and balcony dining area. Decor includes beer and tequila logos on neon signs, banners, flags and umbrellas. The menu includes quesadillas, tacos, flautas and enchiladas, as well as entrees such as cheese- and chili-stuffed chicken, skirt steak with salsa and chicken Oaxaca--baked in a paper bag, covered in mushrooms and bathed in spicy red sauce.
- Pros: good Mexican
- Cons: alcohol-soaked scene
The food is far to spicey
by erika1023
I had the enchiladas with Mole sauce (which from my experience is usually pretty mild) and it was so spicy I took two bites and was finished.
The margaritas were fine, though, and this place is reasonably priced for the neighborhood it's in. But I would suggest going elsewhere.
- Pros: margaritas were good
- Cons: over spiced food
Best on the rocks margaritas, no doubt!

I moved away from Chicago a few years ago and still miss Blue Agave's margaritas! I've lived in Texas, traveled many time to Mexico, and tried other "top rated" establishments and nobody's compare! Drink up!
Food and service not good
by kdm
The food has never lived up to much but it is true that they make a good margarita. That is about all I can say. It is walking distance from my house and I still stay away unless I have a week moment.
Food Terrible!
by kathaylatte
We ordered take out from this place and could not believe how AWFUL the food was. Unfortunately we only learned this after arriving home and eating the food. The entrees were full of spice but completely lacking in flavor. Do not order the Chicken Oaxaca! Can't really comment on the service.
Be wary!!

If you are looking for a nice outdoor seating place in the trendy upscale Gold Coast area try to avoid this place at all costs. I have eaten at Blue Agave 3 times in the past year and everytime the same thing...terrible service. We sit outside and you just wait and wait. I am an assertive person and at the same time always respectful of other people. It does no good at this place. Wait staff balks at you when you ask for service. I ordered chicken fingers and got a chimichanga. The waiter said another 20 minutes to get what I actually ordered. No apologies just more attitude. I'm sure many locals have had the same experience. For alternative outdoor seating go to Dublin's (next door), Blue Agave (across the street), or even on State at Cactus or Melvin B's where you will have a much better dining experience.
- Pros: margarita's, chicken fingers
- Cons: BAD SERVICE, MORE BAD SERVICE, & MORE BAD SERVICE
