Very Good Food
by Jovnka1 at Citysearch
We had no problem getting a reservation on a Saturday night and we were seated promptly on arrival. The food was great!! My husband ordered a steak and it was huge. He said it was also delicious. I ordered shrimp and catfish and it was awesome, excellent portion size, too. The service was a bit slow because the waiter was bogged down with getting so many drinks from the bar for other tables. Live music with no cover if you go early. We had a great time!
- Pros: Live music and great food
- Cons: Service a bit slow
Avoid! What a rip off

My husband and I ate here for dinner while visiting chicago. We were seated at an exceptionally tiny table and it was so dark in there we could hardly read the menu. We ordered, I got rosmary shrimp w/ cornbread while my husband got some kind of chicken dish. My food tasted delicious but the portions were so tiny that I was still starving afterwards. It came with something like 6 tiny shrimp on 1 little piece of cornbread. It took us all but 10 mins to finish our meal they were that small. It took FOREVER to get our dessert, we thought our waiter forgot about us. Had to flag our waiter down after ages to get the check. Luckily we had a 50% gift certificate we got off of restaraunt.com. I woulda been really upset to pay full price <which was WAY too overpriced> AVOID!
- Pros: Food tasted decent
- Cons: Tiny portions, Overpriced, Crummy atmosphere
Music, folk-art decor and Southern food attract tourists and locals alike.

In Short
Pulsing with the laughter and conversation of diners and after-work cocktailers, this spot is decorated with glowing reliefs of blues legends. Colorful bottle caps, license plates and painted wood folk art cover the walls and ceilings. The Southern menu features plates of Creole seafood jambalaya, chicken wings, calamari Voodoo shrimp and for dessert, white chocolate-banana bread pudding.
Good Burgers, Not So Good Service

We had very good burgers while we were there but the rosemary cornbread and the brownie dessert are best avoided. Fun atmosphere with house band but our server ignored us repeatedly. Check out the funky bathrooms but bring a dollar with you!
- Pros: good burgers, fun atmosphere, funky bathroom
- Cons: poor service, terrible dessert, sad cornbread
Just OK

The dining experience at the House of Blues is overrated. It looks like a happening bar scene with a young rowdy crowd. It was very loud in the restaurant with the younger folks getting drunk and being obnoxious - and this was at 6pm on a Saturday night. But once the show opened upstairs most of the crowd moved out and it was much less noisy. The food was not that spectacular, like any chain restaurant. It was a bit overpriced for what you got. I would not recommend this to anyone traveling from out of town There are many great restaurants in the city that should not be passed up to visit the House of Blues
- Pros: Friendly Service
- Cons: Crowded, Noisy, Smoky
