The lakefront path is an extremely great attraction in that it serves as a workout and recreational venue. Additionally it is a great place for a romantic evening walk with that special someone! Finally- what a view!

The Lakefront bike path is one of the best things about Chicago. Of course it will be packed with people - it's one of the most beatiful urban shorelines I've ever seen (and I've seen alot). So, words of advice - enjoy the view but keep your eyes on the traffic around you - fellow bikers, runners, bladers and walkers. Follow common courtesy and we can all enjoy on of the best parts of living in Chicago.

I'm on the path at 6 every-other morning and it's the perfect spot to get in a nice run. Yeah -- it's jam-packed later in the day, but the mornings are terrific with just a few runners here and there and city employees mowing the grass. Some spots get a little too close to Lakeshore Drive, but for the most part the path winds quite close to the lake.

Pros: A Chicago treasure

Cons: Can get crowded

It does indeed get packed, but for the most part people are nice and polite. Watch out for speeding bikes. I like the view of the lake the most, but seeing the marinas and the tall buildings in contrast on the western side makes for good scenery.

Sure, it gets crazy packed during the summer, and pedestrians never seem to know to get their butts out of the way for the bladers and cyclists who come through, but it's still a great place to enjoy the city and the lake in the warmer months.

Insider Tips

Know Before You Go

Be wary of in-line skaters and cyclists, who often weave in and out of traffic while passing walkers and joggers. Always stay to the right of the path, and be aware of those behind and in front of you.
