Yuck.

If you are an experienced spa go-er, do NOT go here because you will be disappointed. The locker room is a complete joke...some lockers are exposed to the plywood, and most of them do not lock. I had to move my things three times to find one that locked. In addition, the locker room is VERY small. The relaxation room is hardly that...you have to fill out your paperwork in there, digging a clipboard out from a big bucket in the middle of the room. During the massage I could hear doors slamming and people talking....and when I asked why the head rest on the massage table wasn't in a comfortable position, the therapist simply said that "it had been that way all day"....well then fix it! My group (4 of us) had the last appointments of the day, but they assured us we would not be rushed out after our massages were compete. However, all the water had been removed from the relaxation room, and there was a manager standing in there with us telling us to let her know when we were finished relaxing. Meanwhile, all the therapists are rushing out past us with their coats on, while the manager yelled goodbye to them. We figured we better leave, so I attempted to tell the manager about our less-than-expected experience. She had an excuse for everything of course, so I reminded her about the value of customer feedback. She still didn't get it. Everyone who commented about the pressure they use in trying to sell you products is absolutely right. Bottom line: do yourself a favor and go to most any other spa than this one!
- Pros: more affordable than the good spas
- Cons: numerous
Great cut on my curly hair!
by Brinnan
I saw some reviews on various websites for Red Door Salon last week. I decided to give it a try, so I scheduled for an evening appointment with Lenny. I got a great hair wash with Nicole (she really massaged my scalp), and then a fabulous hair cut with Lenny. I've got incredibly curly hair, so it takes a lot of skill to get it right. He also gave me the best dry I've ever had. Plus, he didn't push a single product or service (though I will be going back for a color). I definitely recommend him and the salon!
Not Recommended - EVER!

I took my sister to this spa for her 30th birthday - we planned to spend several hours, hundred dollars and looked forward to a very relaxing day here. While there, every person with whom we interacted - from the masseuse, to facialist, to the person at the front desk-kept trying to aggressively sell us more costly services and over a thousand dollars worth of products. The kicker was when the masseuse recommended a hair cut and color with their stylists - unprompted! We left the spa NOT relaxed at all and a little depressed that we needed so much more additional work, apparently. I would never ever go there again and most definitely would never recommend it to anyone.
- Pros: None
- Cons: staff, atmosphere (could hear street traffic), etc
HORRIBLE BOOKING STAFF/MANAGEMENT CREATES INCONSISTENT WORK FROM TECHNICIANS
by karinab
I flew into Chicago from Maryland for the day for my mother's birthday and we had made appointments for a cut/color for two a week in advance for her special day at Red Door Salon. In the middle of the appointment we're told that we weren't scheduled for a cut/color for two but rather a cut/blowdry. The front desk didn't do anything to remedy the situation and took no responsibility. Because it was my mom's birthday and she's a regular customer, Red Door sent her a certificant for a free manicure, which she never got even after reminding them after we checked in. Because the staff was so rude, our hairsylist---who's normally wonderful---go so frazzled and upset that he cut my mom's hair unevenly. The staff and manager promised to reduce our bill to make up for the time lost and misscheduling but when my mom went to paid, she was charged in FULL! Though we had plans directlly after our appt, my mom had to cancel them to get her hair fixed because she was too upset. When she went back in, a hair stylist other than our own, who was out on lunch break, tried cutting my mom's hair DRY, stating it was a "new technique" when really he just wanted to get us out of there. My mom has been in customer service and NEVER complains normally. Not only did Red Door not remedy or take responsibility but they were rude and gave us nasty looks. We felt so uncomfortable that unfortunately we won't be back, despite the fact that we love our hairstylist's work. The fact that they mischedule so frequently puts stress on the hair technicians and because of that they aren't able to produce consistent work. They treat customers HORRIBLY, regulars and non-regulars!
- Pros: Location, decor, some hair stylists/technicians
- Cons: Horrible rude staff and management that doesn't take responsibility and doesn't fulfill promises to customers
Overall NOT BAD!

I had a facial at the Red Door on Michigan ave on christmas eve. When I walked in I was greeted and escorted to the locker room to change. The receptionist was very nice. The technician was very prompt and actually early to get me. I loved the facial, my skin felt great, refreshed and revived. I was so relaxed after my facial I took maybe 15 mins to actually get moving. When I checked out it took a little while for the girl to figure the system out but she was very nice. Overall I would recommend this location to my friends. It lived up to it's reputation. For this being my first time I was impressed and will go back.
- Pros: I like the atmosphere, staff was helpful, service was good
- Cons: Locker room a little small not very private
Great hair cut/color
by berryberrysweet
I only had an eyebrow was at the spa, which was OK, so I can't really say if the other reviews are on target, but the hair salon was amazing! My stylist spent so much time with me, and didn't rush the color or cut even though it kept him there a half-hour past closing. The end result was amazing!
Look no further for grandiose spa treatments and a national reputation to match.

In Short
People come for the day, taking advantage of the spa's 20 or more packages--creating a buzz. Serenity seekers look elsewhere. Changing rooms are communal, and accommodations are clean. Abundant massage offerings include the desert stone massage, a Native American treatment using heated lava stones to warm muscles and joints. Skin care options abound, like microdermabrasion and facials. Manicures, pedicures, waxing, makeup, hair, body wraps and advanced massages are signature offerings.
Terrible facial and pushy staff!
by syberpunk
I had a signature facial at the spa, BIG mistake, I walked out looking like a red spotty mess, the facial woman tried to squeeze spots that didn't exist which resulted in me having severe redness and irritation all over my chin and nose which took 2 weeks to go away!
They also tried to sell me every product they had and despite saying no when I got to the counter there were atleast 3 products for me to purchase, the woman checking me out literally had to be yelled at before she would stop trying to give me a sales pitch.
Won't be going back!
On the flip side the hair salon is actually great.
- Pros: Locaton and hours
- Cons: Dirty, rude staff and bad service
More like a salon than a spa...
by roxyhawkins
The waiting area for treatments is tiny, cramped and noisy. My massage room must have been freshly remodeled, as it reeked of paint! The pedicure was nice, not very relaxing, but nice. If they billed themselves as a salon, I could understand, but calling themselves a spa is a stretch. I was hardly in a relaxed state of bliss in this place. Therapists are well-trained, it's the atmosphere that kills the experience.
- Pros: location
- Cons: atmosphere
Good Service

My Red Door experience was wonderful. I had a facial, massage and manicure. The staff was pleasant and no one tried to sell me anything. Everyone was helpful. I will return to the Chicago Red Door Spa on my next visit to Chicago. Best manicure I have ever had. Still looks great after one week.
- Pros: GREAT Manicure
