Fabulous shoes, good service

by JayW

Great store. Friendly knowledgeable staff and amazing shoes. Will definitely be back. It's hard to find shoes that are comfortable and cute...but this place does it.

Hot shoes in the neighborhood

by CS1984

This shoe shop has a lot of hot, hot shoes. Trust. You will always find something super cute here. They are, naturally, a little pricey, but you're getting quality shoes and superior design. They're "penny" sales are a must for shoe lovers!

  • Pros: Hot selection
  • Cons: Pricey!

Hot Hot Shoes

by allthisandmore

Niche is awesome. I found the coolest boots there a couple months ago. I didn't think I could find a boot in the summer, and I got this great pair of MOMAs. They have hard to find brands and a really great atmosphere. The employees were really helpful and attentive. A great store with great shoes.

  • Pros: Great Selection, Great Service
  • Cons: Parking in this neighborhood seemed impossible, but they told me they have parking passes for a lot in the back

Terrible Customer Service

by xtgiese

Shoe problems abounded after two short weeks owning shoes from Niche (worn 3 times for a total of about 2 hrs). Store employees could not have been less understanding. Cool store, but not worth spending a dime.

  • Pros: Atmosphere, Location
  • Cons: Indifferent staff, poor quality shoes

Don't stand behind their shoes!

by donna_n

I bought a pair of shoes at this store and within the first hour of wearing them..the heel snapped off. When I went to the store, the manager was rude and informed me that they would not allow me to return the shoes (even with receipt). The manager informed me that we 'dont make these shoes' and, therefore, we cant guarantee the quality. Also, the manager noted that their shoes was not Nordstroms and cant back every shoe sold. The manager did contact the owner, who also stated that it was policy not to accept returns.

The store did repair the shoe but the heel on the other shoe broke within 2 hours of wearing it.

I was displeased with the attitude of the manager and her condescending attitude. I do not recommend this store.

  • Cons: management, return policy, treatment of customers

Two shops in one for ultra-stylish shoes in the congested area at North and Milwaukee avenues.

by Contributor

The Scene
Anchoring Wicker Park's busiest intersection stands a pair of shoe shops perfect for the in-vogue urban dweller. While appearing to be two distinct stores with separate entrances on different streets, Niche and City Soles actually share the same owner and overlap in space. This dual den of style is light and open, showcasing high-quality, high-end shoes. Glass counters display jewelry by local artists, and colorful, funky purses hang in the backdrop.

The Goods
Niche/City Soles has expanded beyond loyal Chicago-based customers to draw in tourists bored with Magnificent Mile shops. Owner Scott Starbucks sells footwear for both men and women, unique in selection and varied in style. Higher-end, avant-garde goods fill the Niche half, featuring European imports like Goffredo Fantini, Sebastiano Migliore and Rodolfo Zengarini. City Soles offers more familiar, lower-priced designer names such as Charles David, Kenneth Cole and BCBG.

  • Pros: Great styles
  • Cons: Street parking
