Great breakfast, but $$$
by Sybot
We were seated in the last row, next to the kitchen. This ruined an otherwise good place. We went for breakfast, and both dishes were tasty. Were they worth the $15 price tag each? Not really, but the same dishes would cost at least $10 elsewhere...so im ok paying for the W experience. Wait staff was very good. Coffee is brewed on the strong side, reminded me of Starbucks. OJ is $6, but fresh.
- Pros: Convenient, good breakfast
- Cons: bad seating, good views area available though

My wife and I went to Wave to celebrate her birthday. We are nobody important, but the manager made sure that we got a great table and special attention. After receiving descriptions and recommendations on the small plates from the waiter, it all sounded so good that we couldn't decide what to get and pretty much ordered everything. It was an amazing assortment of food, and all of it was delicious. At the end, the manager ordered a special dessert for us that was way beyond awesome. This was one of the best restaurant experiences we have ever had.
- Pros: service, food
A stylish scene and creative tapas-like menu draw diners to this W Hotel restaurant.

In Short
A few steps beyond the trendy lounge scene of the W Hotel lobby, Wave is just as stylish and comparatively serene. Its sleek, modern look is warmed with low light and a communal dining table. Wave's contemporary seafood menu has a Mediterranean flair and highlights small dishes meant for sharing over cocktails. Try grilled tuna with spiced beluga lentils and a lobster tasting of four dishes. The whimsical "Pop, Pop, Pop" dessert trio of orange flan, chocolate-ginger semi-freddo and cardamom crème brûlée is worth saving room for. Late-night dining continues in the lounge after hours.
- Pros: hip setting
- Cons: food can be inconsistent
Good lunch!
by 2citysis
I was recently here for lunch and had a great experience-the server was polite and informative but not intrusive. I ended up having the pizza special of the day which was delicious, and my friend had a seafood dish that she finished all of. They have this warm pita bread and yummy dip for their "bread" dish they give you before the meal. My friend had also been there several times before and loved it! I'd go back!
- Pros: Decor, service, food
- Cons: No parking (W valet is expensive!)
A Wave of Disappointment
by sg1977
I went to Wave this past weekend. It was one of the worst dining experiences I have ever had. The food is, to put it bluntly, AWFUL. We started with cured beef tenderloin, which was salty and tasted like shoe leather. Then we tried the lamb sausage which tasted so badly, we left the entire dish. The flavors were foul and horrendously paired. We also tried the skewered tuna and it was overdone and again paired with other things that didnt seem to match well together. My friend had the tagine chicken, which she said was bland. Dessert and drinks were disappointing too. I am surprised a hotel like the W would allow food like this to be served. The waiter became annoying as he tried to overcompensate for the bad food, when he sensed we were unhappy. I will NEVER go back.
- Cons: Cold and Distant, Expensive, Bad Combinations

Decor is nice and hip. My friends and I had a drink at the bar. Friendly bar staff. Went over for dinner. We ordered a bunch of stuff off the menu. Most of the items were good. The paella and salmon was very good. I would go back for a dinner.
- Pros: Entrees, Friendly bar staff, Decor
Impressive Food

This restaurant has to rate as some of the best food in Chicago. I do not understand the negative reviews I have read. My martini was great The Octopus Appetizer was tasty and tender, as well as the small clams that accompanied it. The whole roasted fish was a delight. It also was very tasty and well prepared. The side dish of asparagus was crisp and well seasoned. The service was very good but we weren't rushed. The waiter was well informed and very pleasant. I twas a good experience.
- Pros: food, service
- Cons: noisy

Wave is bad bad bad

Wave's interior design is striking, hip and attractive. After that it goes downhill. Our waiter didn't really know the menu, and the menu itself was very unappealing. The food is overpriced and mediocre. I had an appetizer consisting of two seared scallops for $12 that was tasteless. On to a flavorless salad. The friend I was with had equally bad luck. With such a great looking place, it is a shame they cannot come up with a menu that is either truly exciting, or simply has really great food that you actually may want to eat, preferrably both. The menu will appeal to an extremely limited number of people. I would also not suggest eating at Wave if you are hungry as the small portions and large prices will not satisfy. Go for drinks, skip the food. (I should have listened to several people who told me that as well.)
