Ambitious local music chain entices with retail amenities.
The Scene
The newest Crow's Nest is a local chain alternative to encroaching deep-pocketed chains like Tower and Virgin, a bold retail venture designed to attract a steady stream of nearby DePaul University students and music fanatics. Decked out in modern bright purples and greens, the big space has a coffee bar (the Lyric Lounge) and listening stations to keep shoppers lingering longer than usual. Audition new releases on a purple chaise, where an overhanging sound pod focuses the music on your ears only. Signed guitars and promo posters fill in the negative space.
The Stock
Tons of CDs, organized in clearly marked categories including rock/pop, jazz, imports, rap/hip-hop, R&B, soundtracks, dance/electronic. If you can't find something, a clerk can look it up on a nearby computer and special-order it. Box sets punctuate every row of discs. Visual types browse the DVD/VHS areas, which consist mainly of new releases and music-related films.

This store is so cool. They have the best selection and prices that I've seen in the city. Forget tourist traps like Virgin, and has-beens like Tower. This is an indie powerhouse to be reckoned with. They also have the BEST coffee. Plus, as an added bonus, I saw Jimmy Eat World there, the staff is super friendly and helpful, too
- Pros: in-stores, selection, prices

While shopping at one of the citys finest music establishments, I found a little known secret to Chicagoans. It's called the Lyric Lounge and it's located in the new Crow's Nest location in Lincoln Park. Along with the usual fair of cappuccinos, latte's etc. which I might add, are excellent. The Lyric Lounge offers up their own unique java based concoctions. Along with the coffees are teas, ice cream, sundaes, and some sandwiches. I give this new little gem high marks in the Starbucks overkill that is Chicago. AAAAA+++++
- Pros: Great Coffees, Parking..FREE!!!, Nice Atmosphere
