Not worth the trip
by mightyquinn at Citysearch
My husband and I were staying at the W City Center and decieded to check out the W Lakeshore. While the view from Whiskey Sky was impressive the service was just average. It was way to small. Not a good place for a conversation. The bar at the W City Center was much better.
- Cons: Crowded, Loud
DEFINITELY not worth the trip to the 33rd floor

Stayed at the W over the weekend (which was outstanding) and decided to head up to Whiskey Sky Saturday night. What a disappointment! Tiny, crowded, view was not even remotely breathtaking, and the server was too busy sitting and chatting with friends to take our drink orders. The crowd just seemed like your average hipsters, not even any good people watching. Might be better when less crowded and when you can see the lake, but don't bother making a special trip.
Small but cozy

Great looking place, great music & drinks. Beautiful staff & guests. Incredible view great for a date on slow nights. Yeah, drinks are higher than they are in Naperville or some beer garden in Wrigley, but if you need to complaine about the price you shouldn't be righting a review or going there. Don't expect to get your ass kissed, just go & have fun. That's how I do it & it's always a good time.
- Pros: View, Good looking staff, atmosphere
One of the Best Bars in Chicago

The view from this bar is magnificent. The drink prices are reasonable considering the atmosphere. Easy to have a conversation. Incredible place.
- Pros: great atmosphere, posh design, awesome view
Top-floor, top-shelf lounge at W Hotel Lakeshore.

The Scene
On the 33rd floor of the contemporary W Lakeshore, sleek Whiskey Sky has a smoked, blue acrylic ceiling which reflects twinkling lights from the nearby Navy Pier Ferris wheel. Low silver leather banquets, a leather banquette extending along the wall and black mohair club chairs offer elegant options for sitting at low white cube tables. If the sheer blue curtains are open, enjoy breathtaking views of Lake Michigan. Waitresses in black dresses might be leggy and model-like, but they're amicable to the civilized. Lighter alternative rock and soul play in the background. On busy nights, you'll wait in line with designer-clad urbanites and E!-watching suburban adventurers.
The Draw
In addition to a typical selection of bottled beers, a tight selection of premium liquors is stocked in the glowing bar; scotches include Glenlivet, Macallan and Glenfiddich. Expect to pay penthouse prices (around $10 per drink).

Not worth the trip to the 33rd florr. The lobby bar is more creatively designed, and roomier.
- Cons: design, no dancing

good for a date. I went earlier in the evening, and it was a nice, relaxed place. Waitresses' were attentive, but it was fairly pricey. The crowd was yuppie, but I don't go out for the crowd, I go out to enjoy myself. I enjoyed myself, and my date, at Whiskey sky.
- Pros: atmosphere
- Cons: value
Sexy lounge-y vibe

The scene here is pretty mellow during the week, making it a good spot for pre-dinner drinks or an after-work cocktail. Plan on spending at least $10 a drink, though. The view of the lake is beautiful, framed by diaphanous blue curtains and a lapis-colored ceiling. Also a good place for people-watching, as swanked-up scene-stealers drop in to get noticed.
- Pros: Great view
- Cons: Expensive drinks
