Excellent Asian Food and Fine Service ... BUT Small Portions and VERY OVERPRICED!
by mrjustice
Somewhat dissappointed. Though Service was very good, attentive, and polite, and Food was well prepared, visually appealling and tasty, I found the portions to be very small and everything was VERY overpriced. Unless you've got money to burn, or are going on someone else's 'dime' (i.e. Gift Certificate, Guest, or business write-off), wouldn't recommend it. There are too many other fine asian restaurants, much more reasonably priced. Tab for just my wife and I for 3 dinner entrees (and no appetizers), and 4 glasses of so-so white wine, was close to $200.
- Pros: Excellent Asian Food, Good Eye Appeal and Tasty, and very Attentive Polite Service
- Cons: Small Portions; and VERY OVERPRICED.
excellent all-around experience

Sophisticated, upscale Asian cuisine in an intimate setting at the Peninsula Hotel.

The Scene
Quiet Shanghai Terrace is tailor-made for a discreet business meeting or a romantic rendezvous. Hardwood floors contrast with sleek red trim and Asian artwork in the small, intimate space. Soothing music thrums, while soft-spoken servers provide amiable, efficient service.
The Food
Shanghai Terrace serves excellent French-influenced Asian fare that is both artful and accessible. Dotted with shrimp, spicy papaya salad is so refreshing, you almost don't notice the heat sneaking up on your taste buds. Tuna sashimi drapes over not the standard rice but shredded daikon fragrant with truffle vinaigrette. Five-spice duck is simple--just stir-fried vegetables and meat--but that meat is wonderfully crispy, tender and flavorful. Wok-fried lobster is a knockout: meaty lobster chunks, still in the shell, served with Asian greens, yellow chives and a scintillating chili sauce. And don't skip dessert: One favorite stacks creamy coconut sorbet atop a sesame cookie tuile, all on a base of sake-marinated tropical fruit.
- Pros: exquisite Chineseseductive ambience
- Cons: pricey

The food, service and atmosphere are all lovely at this restaurant. The presentation is among the best I have seen in awhile. The five spice duck is delicious, as are the frois gras dumplings to have as dim sum in the beginning of the meal. The portions are on the small side. I recommend the sorbets (mango, raspberry and coconut).
- Pros: Excellent Food, Service
eating on a canoe
by lauren32
Food is fair and service is overall adequate. Tables for two are very small...feels like eating on a canoe. Although every square inch is covered by dishes, you still can't fit everything. It's annoying when one of your entrees is sitting on a different counter.
- Pros: food
- Cons: small tables
