Great for Parties

by lmk1030

Would highly recommend Keefer's for a party.

Was planning my mom's 75th birthday and stumbled across this restaurant on the web. Photos looked nice, etc. -- that's all I knew of the place. Our whole group was blown away by the food -- large portions, cooked exactly how each of us wanted. They had us in a private room with its own entrance (Keefer's Kafe), which was quaint and comfortable. Servers were personable and attentive.

Prices were excellent and they have the lowest "minimum" for a party of any of the restaurants I contacted. Downside -- they charge a $100 server fee and had a mandatory 20% tip. This put the cost of service at 28% of the total tab. The service was great but 28% is quite high.

  • Pros: Great Food, Awesome Environment, Excellent Service
  • Cons: 20% Tip Required on top of $100 Server Charge

Head to Harry Carys across the street

by kencitadel

Service ok,

Tuna steak mushy, fatty, bland in flavor

Baked Spud no better than a Ryans steak house

Do yourself a favor and head to Cap Grill or Harry Cary's across the street

Carys is hands down better and has ambience, this place is sterile and way over hyped

blahhhhh

  • Pros: location
  • Cons: fish, steak, sides, all below average

Great in small groups, not so much in large groups

by myers1

I've eaten here a few times, in small groups (4-6) and in a large group (15-20). When in a small group, the food is amazing. My filets when I've eaten in small groups have been the best I've ever had.

When in a large group for a company party, while the service was impeccable (my wine glass did not go empty!) and the appetizers delicous, the steak suffered. My filet was well done (I'd ordered medium rare) and it did not have the preparation I had asked for. The sides and desserts are still delicious though. Great creamed spinach, great house salad with bibb lettuce and some Belgian endive on the side.

Good Looking Manager, and Great Food is a Plus too...

by nolachitown

The service is impeccable here. The staff is patient and willing to answer any questions and always have great recommendations. The portions are huge and worth the money you spend. The really cute manager told my friends to come on Fridays for their happy hour. I'd definitely go back.

  • Pros: great service, great food, great location

Excellent Steaks!

by newgirl1

Keefer's has proven to always have consistent food and great service. Every year my husband and I go out for "our holiday dinner" around Christmas, and this is the only restaurant my husband will go. We also recommend Keefer's to all our friends! Keefer's is all around the perfect restaurant.. Great food, great atmosphere, and great service.

Great Service! Great Food!

by apaiser

Visited Keefer's on 12/3 for a late dinner. We were seated immediately even though we were a bit early. Our server, Patty, was at our table immediately. Her service throughout the evening was absolutely wonderful. A glass was never less than half full. She also knew the art of "when to and not to" approach the table. Everyone who served our table was excellent. I even got football game scores from a waiter. The food was incredible and I still cannot get over the portions. After a hectic day we wanted to slow down and we did. We enjoyed a leisurely 2 1/2 hour dinner (our pace -not theirs) that I will remember forever. We will be back!

  • Pros: Service was excellent!
  • Cons: none

Outstanding!

by scotta27

Keefer's ranks highly among my favorite restaurant experiences anywhere, ever.

Called ahead that we would be 30 mins late for dinner. Even though it was a busy Friday eve, packed house and bar, we were seated immediately upon arrival. Informed our waiter, Trent, that we were on a schedule as we were late and had theater tickets. He made us feel relaxed and comfortable, and immediately took our order. I say truly, the timing of every detail of our meal was made to be simply perfect. In the end we were not rushed at all, enjoying our dinner experience fully. And thanks to Trent, we were in our seats just before opening curtain!

The food was excellent except my house salad, which was merely good. It was very plain - just Bibb lettuce and some red cabbage. It was fresh and tasty, just plain, and a little too light on the flavorful balsamic vinaigrette. I had the small filet mignon "diane" style, which was a little larger than expected - perfect size. It was superb - perfectly cooked to medium-rare, delicious sauce in its proper limited quantity, probably the finest steak I've ever enjoyed. My date's steak was equally good. Sides of au gratin potatoes and "Hogan's Peas" were also excellent and perfectly sized. With clock ticking, I asked Trent if we had time for the orange chocolate creme brulee. He said we would have it in three minutes. Three minutes later, he brought our absolutely delightful dessert and the check.

The ambiance was warm and inviting, and the food was outstanding. Every portion was perfect - not too much, not too little. But the best part of this experience was the service - truly exceptional. The staff allowed neither our wine nor water glasses to be empty, our needs were cheerfully accommodated with precision, and the entire experience was managed and orchestrated in a relaxed, yet efficient and professional manner.

Slightly pricey, yes, but worth what I paid. A memorable experience. Highly recommended.

  • Pros: Attentive, accommodating service. Truly outstanding food. Nice wine list.
  • Cons: None except the plainness of the basic house salad.

Great Steak

by xytraumarn

We made reservations for a group of 12 people and we were promptly seated when we arrived. The staff were very friendly, we actually had 2 waiters at our table Minos and another gentleman (sorry I can't remember your name) who were funny, knowledgeable and charming. If you are looking for an excellent Chicago steak house this must be on your list. My filet came perfectly prepared, although next time I would ask for no salt in the seasoning.

  • Pros: Wonderful ambience and service
  • Cons: Bathrooms needed attention

Does not disappoint!!

by kellymfritz

My husband & I visited Keefer's for the first time last weekend. It was such a nice experience. The food was excellent!! The breaded calamari & spicy sauce was out of this world!! Steak was perfectly done for both of us as we had requested it and absolutely delicious! The staff was very professional and we always had drinks and everything we needed without really knowing they were there. Romantic... The only thing I would say is that we were a little underdressed -- We were told there was no dress code and it was casual, but we would have felt a little more comfortable if we had dressed up a little more. We'll be back. Great food!!
