Great friday night crowd
by ebebanta356 at Citysearch
Dragonfly is amazing on Friday nights! They call the night fetish friday's and the place gets packed! I've been other nights of the week and it's been pretty calm, but there's something about a tyku drink special that packs bars! If you're looking for a good friday night this is the place to be.
reservation had no meaning, management made no apology/concession
by cmalinky at Citysearch
we had reservations at 830 and were told we would have to wait only 10 minutes for our table upon arrival. after 45 minutes the hostess tried to put some tables together for us but the manger would not allow this. no one came to talk to us or offer a free drink while we waited, i guess we were suppose to just sit there and wait, so after nearly an hour we simply left, i have never experienced that before at a restaurant in chicago when i had a reservation.
Great ambiance and staff

I went to Dragonfly for dinner on Saturday. We had a reservation for 7 at 8pm. We had to wait about 15 minutes once we got there because it was a full house. The manager bought us our first round of drinks because it was my friend's birthday. That was one of the nicest gestures any restaurant has ever extended to us. Usually you only get a free dessert (which we also got at the end of the meal). The food was excellent. We ordered the Honey Walnut Prawns which was highly recommended from our server and it's one of the best dishes I have ever had. I will definitely go back just for that dish. The decor is gorgeous and the unmrellas on the wall was very unique. One con was that it was a bit noisy in the restaurant. Everyone was talking very loud. Next time I will try to go on a less busier night.
- Pros: Honey Walnut Prawns, decor and manager bought us 7 drinks!
- Cons: Noisy when a full restaurant
Horrible attitude - Don't every go here
by Bobwho at Citysearch
I went here recently on a friend's recommendation. It was a cold winter night so I had a stylish leather jacket on and wanted to keep it on. They wouldn't let me keep the coat. They said it was a rule that every coat had to be coat checked. I looked around and saw at least 3 other people with coats on. Then a girl had her coat on and they wouldn't let her go up. But after some discussion they let her pass. Then we I pointed this out they said I was being obnoxious, but could go upstairs if I wanted. Then I find out I was talking with one of owners. Absolutely horrible manners. This place is more concerned about making a dollar off of their coat check than if their customers are comfortable. I would have easily dropped over a $100 on drinks on this place. I won't ever go back to such a place with an attitude like this.
- Cons: More interested in making money than customer service
Food was Gross
by lulucuffs2001 at Citysearch
I just thought the food was nasty. I ordered beef with broccoli which was gooey. It was like they had used corn syrup or something in the preparation. We ordered spring rolls as an appetizer and they were way too greasy. The soup I had was ok. I would never go back.
- Pros: I really can't think of one...
- Cons: Disgusting Food
We will definitely be back! Delicious chinese food!
by MissFoodGal at Citysearch
This place is awesome! The food was delicious! My friend recommended it to me after her family went there for her parent's anniversary and couldn't agree with her more that the food was some of the best Chinese food I've ever eaten in Chicago. I'm from San Francisco so I'm used to authentic, grade A Chinese food. Dragonfly is a bit more americanized, but still very fresh and delicious. I would say, however, that parking is a bit hectic there with all the cars trying to get valet. But well worth the venture. We will definitely be back!
- Pros: The food and gorgeous decor
- Cons: Parking
Really bad. Just no idea at all
by Britcrit at Citysearch
Soft shell crab not crispy and hot but like fish that had been cooked in old batter. Satay were OK but peanut sauce creamy. Fiery curry hot rice with chicken ugly mess of a lot of rice , cheap curry powder and no real heat. Fillet of snapper an insipid vague fish flavour. Fish was staemed but still watery in a salty cheap sauce. Bathroom no soap and no atmosphere. Won't survive the recession and ought not to. Sauvingnon by the bottle aws cheap, no lemony grassy tones. OH why go on...dreadful
Most disgusting attempt at chinese food
by Westloopkid at Citysearch
A group of us ordered lunch from Dragonfly on a Tuesday afternoon. We were sorely disappointed, both with the food and the price. They should pay people to eat the food. Fiery chicken was slimy, had no taste or "fire", and left a disgusting after taste in our mouths. We thought we would be safe with Orange Chicken as that is breaded and fried. We were wrong. I have never had chicken so dry. It tasted like dried soup chicken, if it really is chicken. How breaded and fried food is dry on the inside is a mystery I don't want solved. Tasteless brown or what they call fried rice was just terrible. Hard, chewy, and no good flavor to mention. Eggrolls had so much pepper and garlic we wondered what we had ordered. We hope nobody wastes their time or money on this place. The service was fine, the food (the most important part) was TERRIBLE.
- Cons: Everything
Great service and decor
by shellyp0505 at Citysearch
I went last Friday and had great service from Barbara. The place is gorgeous and the umbrellas on the wall are very cool. The live jazz was a nice touch and the $20 per person family combo is a great deal. We ate so much and will definitely be back.
- Pros: Service, Ambiance, Price
- Cons: Parking is hard
Don't bother
by jeffclauser at Citysearch
Drinks were about as watered down as any I have ever had. If you are charging $8 for a drink you need to put a reasonable amount of alcohol in it. Nickle and diming on this low cost item is just plain dumb. You can make customers very happy with a stiff drink. Food was very average. Ambiance was nice but music a bit loud. Hostess was somewhat curt and condescending. I wouldn't go here again.
- Pros: Decent ambiance; good location
- Cons: Weak, overpriced drinks; snooty staff
