Great service, great food, great atmosphere
by hwf at Citysearch
I agree with everything that has already been said, but as no one has reviewed Garrets in awhile, I wanted to let everyone know it's still got it!! The best part of this bar was that it was an unexpected suprise for two out-of-towners just exploring the streets. Charming atmoshere...Our gorgeous Irish bartender (not kidding) had plenty of recommendations for us - the spinach seafood fritta for brunch (paired of course with a fresh Goose Island on tap)...The flat screens inside allow for viewing of that day's Cubbie game, or the outdoor patio allows for people watching. We will definitely stop by next time we are in town!
- Pros: Drinks! Service! Food!
- Cons: parking i supose, if you were driving
Perfect Chicago Ba'
by singacarolle at Citysearch
This place is my favorite. I am a local neighborhood lady, and on the weeknights I can bring my family, on the weekends I can bring my friends and on Sunday morning I can read my paper and have a traditional Irish brunch. The crowd is diverse given what time it is, the hours are perfect, the food is incomparable, and the service is exceptional. I highly reccomend Friday and Saturday nights where the waitresses are pure sweetness and the drinks are poured perfectly.
- Pros: MiniBurgers, Adan's Burger, Fresh Salads, Waitresses, Great Drinks
Nice Girls Night OUt
by laurawickerpark at Citysearch
This place has the best service! Went to this local pub with My Ladies and was served by a sweet-bubbly girlie girl, who knew her beer list, reccomended shots and appetizers. We got the sampler and fell in love with the mini-things. Thanks for a nice girls night out - Good Food & Spectacular Service.
- Pros: Super Server. Fun, laidback environment. Great place for friends. Amazing menu.
Be In-The-Know!

If you haven't been to this bar you are missing out on THE GREATEST PLACE in Chicago. The food - Amazing; I've frequented, and almost tried the whole menu. Not your typical bar food, but more Momma's kitchen mixed with Gourmet Freshness. My fav is the Chicken Brie Sandwich or when I bring my gals we share the Mini Burgers & Grilled Veggie Salad. Speaking of... my girlfriends are in-love with the bartenders. The sweetest, pour the best drinks, and in my opinion the cutest in town. Overall: the service is fantastic, the environment warm/inviting, the location is friendly, the vibe... you'll never find a better place in-compare!
- Pros: Welcoming, Friendly Regulars, Perfect Music
Fabulous drinks ~ downhome goodness ~ great people and place !
by cpuc at Citysearch
I walked in and immediately felt welcomed. The waitress was adorable and knowledgeable. The drinks were amazing and so was the bartender. The food was even better - flavorful with "down home" goodness. If you're in the mood for "comfort food," Garrett Ripley's is the place. I've been back several times, ordered different kinds drinks and other menu items and they've all been delightful. This tavern/restaurant should be rated a 10!! All the reviews are great ~ we are all saying the same thing.... GO, believe me, you won't be disappointed !!!
- Pros: Fabulous place, fabulous people, fabulous drinks
- Cons: Not a single one from me or anyone.
Garret Ripley's Wins Hands Down
by afrochick29 at Citysearch
Garret Ripley's is one of the best Irish pubs that I have ever been to. During my university stay in London, I visited many countries including Bulgaria, Amsterdam, Ireland!!!(of course), Scotland and I even partied in Ibzia for a week, but no place has ever really stayed on my mind,,,,,,well okay Ibzia has, but here in the states, Garret Ripley's rocks......and rules. I was introduced to this place by my real estate agent who's a very nice guy and through hime I met loads of really nice, warm and friendly people. So now, Garret's is my new hangout spot. I plan to remain a regular there and I challenge everyone in Chicago to make a stop at this lively place, where the music is outrageously fantastic and very cosmic. The bartenders are all STARS! So watch out!
- Pros: Service, Bartenders, location
- Cons: NONE AT ALL!!!
Highly Recommended

A great place to hang out and have relaxed drinks with friends. Bar staff are great, everyone seems to know each other or wants to get to know you and the food is excellent. I have never seen any trouble and always stay longer than I should.
Friday nights are especially good...
- Pros: Atmosphere, Drinks/Food, People
- Cons: Parking
Classy neighborhood tavern offers an upscale after-work option to River North white collars.
by Contributor at Citysearch
The Scene
With its cherry-stained tables and comfy black leather chairs, restrained Ripley's outclasses most other Irish watering holes in the city. Copper light fixtures hang over a massive and lovely wood bar; vintage men's hats and framed photographs adorn the walls. Affable groups of 30-somethings from area offices, friendly service and piped in pop-music roundout the comfortable experience.
The Draw
Food's not just an afterthought here: Instead of wings, the menu offers zesty "buffalettes," mini boneless buffalo chicken breast sandwiches. "Fire fries" covered in melted cheese and salsa fresca are a great deal; chopped salad is large, simple and light, and the focaccia sandwich boasts fresh mozzarella melted over a grilled chicken breast on flavorful tomato- and artichoke-studded bread. Premium beers on tap include Guinness, Bass, Pilsner Urquell and Anchor Steam, plus another handful (Red Stripe, Stella Artois) in bottles. There's a good selection of half-bottles of wine, too.
Great neighborhood bar

I discovered this bar a little over two months ago and have brought most of my friends here...which they now frequent themselves. The bartenders are what make this place comfy, cozy and the scottish accents certainly don't hurt any! The appetizers and brunch are tasty as well.
Why we love Chicago.
by Barbara_Hass at Citysearch
Garrett Ripleys is why we love Chicago - the epitome of what makes this city fun. Great bar, nice crowd, an interior that makes you want to relax and have a drink with friends, and charming, handsome bartenders who mix fantastic drinks. What more could a Chicagoan want? Happy hour is back in vogue.
