Thursday Night Music Quiz

by PineStreet at Citysearch

Think you know music? The Bungalow LoungeBar wants you to prove it--or at least have fun trying. Beginning Thursday, April 9 at 8pm, and continuing every Thursday, Lakeview’s Bungalow LoungeBar will quiz participants on song lyrics, trivia, music clips (think “Name that Tune”) and more. Participants will play in teams of five people or less and can create their own team or be grouped into a team at the quiz. Prizes will be awarded to the top teams.

“Chicagoans know music,” says Aaron Hogan, the Bungalow’s owner, “and I don’t mean one or two BonJovi or Britney Spears songs. I mean every genre, every decade from stadium rockers to small indie bands.” Hogan says the content of the quiz will reflect this same broad spectrum of music interests.

“If you own an iPod, listen to the radio, or watch MTV, you’ll do well on the quiz,” Hogan continues. “To win, though, you’re going to need to know one or two ‘B-sides’--and know what a B-side is!”

Hogan has had a life-long passion for music and it was knowing an obscure “B-side” that landed him the ultimate prize: his wife. “She decided she was going to marry me on our first date after I said Beyond Belief by Elvis Costello was one of my favorite songs.”

Never underestimate the power of knowing your music.

Snobby staff, overpriced weak drinks

by 75sasha at Citysearch

Not worth the time or money. The servers and bartenders act as if they are doing you a favor by asking you your order.

  • Pros: Lots of parking, because no one goes there
  • Cons: Price, rude staff, weak drinks

Trendy

by mazter22 at Citysearch

Great decor, great location, parking available all over neighborhood. Fantastic crowd! Easily assessible to transportation. One problem is the over priced bar menu, $7 jack and coke that has practically no Jack and is in a 12oz glass. Wine is reasonably priced and so are the beers, but mixed drinks are terribly priced and they have little liquour in them.

If you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of other Belmont areas the Bungalow Loungebar is the place to be any night of the week.

  • Pros: trendy, good music, great parking in area
  • Cons: over priced mixed drinks!

Finally, good music...

by mcrevys at Citysearch

I stumbled on the place a few weeks ago because someone recommeded the music on Wednesday nights. As it turns out the DJ on Wednesdays is this guy from WNUR that served up some of the best lounge music I have ever heard! Roy Ayres on a weeknight in a Chicago bar? Finally!!!

  • Pros: Music, Martinis, parking

Neighbors from west Lakeview have warmed to this sophisticated lounge with homey style.

by Robyn Galbos at Citysearch

The Scene
"Sophisticated" and "cozy" are two words that alternately come to mind as you step into this urbane lounge. The decor is decidedly modern, but it's nowhere near sterile: A central fireplace, soft amber lighting and flickering votive candles give a warm glow to the room. The marriage of dark wood, burnt-umber walls and Prairie-style design adds to the homey feel. Semicircular booths provide cozy nooks for quiet conversation, while oversized bar stools provide a perfect perch for regulars requiring less intimacy.

The Draw
The lounge lures an attractive, unpretentious crowd from the neighborhood on weekend nights. The well-rounded drink menu offers more than 20 wines available by the glass or bottle, and several specialty drinks, like the "Bungalow Blonde"--a martini made with vodka, limoncello and sweet and sour. Thirty or so beers--bottles and draft--are also available.

Great Place, horrible service

by avgirl562 at Citysearch

My friends and I went on a Saturday for another friends birthday. The place is cool but the service is horrible. I think the servers and the bar staff should be less concerned on how they look and concetrate on the customers

  • Pros: cool atmosphere
  • Cons: bad service, crowded

Snobby, but delicious!

by debbiezol at Citysearch

I would not use the word 'unpretentious' to describe this crowd. Clientel was a little snooty, but the drinks were great. I highly recommend the chocolate martini - complete with a hershey kiss! With a small group, this is a very intimate place to hang out for an evening.

BUNGALOW SMOOTHS

by aileen2u at Citysearch

Smooth out in the plush booths, hang out at the long bar, choose your grooves on the jukebox, or hang with the DJ -- this place screams "chill". My friends love it, we have never had a bad time, and it is not full of people trying to be "seen", just cool cats kicking back. The drinks rock and m y friends will smooth here for a long time. Great Job! Hint: Parking lot behind.

  • Pros: crowded on weekends
  • Cons: crowded on weekends

It's swank!

Had a great time, great atmosphere and hip, laid-back crowd. There's even parking on the street nearby!
