not all they try to be...

So far so good... Very comfortable King deluxe room... nice amenities... I thought people were kidding about the fake french accents, bu upon arrival- sure enough.. made me laugh... it was kind of tongue in cheek I think... Close to the blue line, about 1/2 hour to an hour to downtown, depending on train service... Pluses: robes, full sized towels, very comfortable bed, incredibly helpful concierge and staff... Downside: (it may seem trivial, but is important to me)- there is no in room coffee maker- I get the impression they expect me to spend money downstairs getting coffee... also- $10 a day for internet seems awfully high... Will be checking out other hot spots in the area...
Don't be surprised if you're greeted by a friendly "bonjour" at this French-themed hotel.

The Scene
Sofitel, near O'Hare International Airport, carries out its French theme with flower boxes and balconies painted on the walls above the lobby and with the word "le" (French for "the") in front of certain words like Le Bar. The indoor pool with attached sun deck offers an air traffic controller's view of O'Hare. Stocking a variety of French wares, the gift shop offers items that may not be found in more Americanized hotels.
The Details
Renovated along with the meeting spaces in 1997, the 300 guest rooms (11 suites) are decorated in a cheery French country style that is a welcome departure from usual corporate hotel decor. Bay windows in each room add a cozy feeling.

I was stuck at the Sofitel for 8 weeks and I must tell you the staff did everything in their power to make me feel at home. I have stayed at properites all over the world (currently I am in Saipan at another major name hotel) I would gladly recommend the Sofitel to anyone.
- Pros: Friendly, Excellent Food, Very Comfortable
- Cons: It is In Rosemont, Nothing close by, N/A

Hotel Sofitel is a wonderfully classy hotel. A very relaxing spot to rest. They have reasonable and very comfortable rooms. There service is impeccable. If you didn't know better you would swear that you are in Europe. They also throw fantastic weddings with unbelievably tasty food (and a great selection of it). There only flaw (and unfortunately it's a big one) is that they no longer have their formerly fantastic Sunday brunch.

I have stayed here a few time and I ask myself everytime why do I return. I never can get a good nights sleep, because you can hear the traffic clearly even with the window closed. Don't stay at this hotel if sleep is at all important to you.
- Cons: Sleeping Rooms, Restaurant

Sorry, I can't agree with the other glowing reviews. I was constantly disappointed at this supposedly upscale "French" hotel. The lobby lives up to the expectations set on their website and staff is quite courteous, but get upstairs and the rooms are nothing special. Stained carpet, hard beds, non-functioning hair dryer and iron, not even a full-size ironing board. The towels are a nice size, the shower was good and strong, nice bathrobes. Breakfast in the restaurant was good (except for the powdered hot chocolate - egad) but dinner was a huge disappointment. Canned asparagus in my asparagus vichyssoise, canned crabmeat in the crabcake and not a baguette in site. Sorry folks, I've been to France and this is nowhere close.
- Pros: Good internet rate
- Cons: falls short of hype
