Updated classics and trendy but wearable clothing for men and women fill a niche.

The Scene
When co-owners Maureen Schwartz and Edye Gershman opened their Glencoe store, they named it after the Italian word for "niche." They later discovered that the word has a second meaning, roughly translated as "welcome and come in." Both interpretations reflect Nicchia's mission to create a comfortable boutique full of stylish clothing and accessories.
The Goods
Nicchia dresses customers from head to toe in pants, jewelry, sweaters, dresses, shoes, belts, bags, pajamas, underthings and some shoes. Working with designers in New York, Los Angeles and Europe, the owners select updated classics and wearable trends for their store. They often choose items by texture, so cashmere is sold year-round, in tiny sweater sets and plush dresses. Many of the brands are European, like baby cotton Ts from Petit Bateau, known for its soft fabrics. Women's clothing ranges from XS to XL, and most menswear goes up to XXXL.
