Hackney's has the best hamburgers and originated the onion ring loaf. The portions are large and the atmosphere is comfortable for the entire family. You can't go wrong !

We had a holiday/Christmas party at Hackney's on Lake this past year. They had over 70 teachers in a very nice, accommodating lower level dining area. Hackney's had Christmas carolling going on throughout the restaurant. The carol-ers came down and sang to us right before the meals came out.

The Hackney cheeseburgers are delicious: they are juicy and full of flavor. If you order your burger well done, the chef makes sure you get a well done burger.

Also, their onion rings are out of this world!

Great burgers and yummy food, all around! Check it out if you're in town! Get here and try this place! Fries, burgers, good service. What more can you ask for in a burger joint?

One of the downers of being in Minneapolis part of the time is not getting my Hackney burger fix when the mood strikes so this is my stomping ground when I get back home to Chicago. My most recent visit was last week (Lake St.) and I'm afraid I am very predictable when it comes to this place. I want my burger on rye with swiss and a full onion loaf. Period. I started calling it "Hackney burger with ratcheese" when I was a small child in the 50's. They're still serving me my ratcheese burger just the way I like. It is my ultimate creature comfort place. I don't even care what the wine menu looks like, but FYI they do have a decent selection of wine and brew. Three generations of my family have been enjoying it here. Outstanding service, rich dark woods, clubby feel, & tucked away in the woods. It's fabulous!!

  • Pros: Beautiful dining rooms, atmosphere galore. Private Dublin club feeling.
  • Cons: none

Famous for their Hackneyburger, a large hamburger which you can get on dark rye bread, a bun, or wheat bread. Also famous for their onion brick, which is like onion rings but all jammed into a brick and fried together. Kid friendly, great place for a family dinner or a date. Wide range of unique beers and bar drinks. If it's a gloomy/cold/rainy day, eat here - if it's a sunny day, go to the nearby location on Harms Road and eat outside on their patio.

  • Pros: Great relaxed yet classy atmosphere and wonderful food.

Yup, this was THE spot to go when I was growing up, for St. Patrick's Day! The food, the friends, the families, the music, the service... It's one big happy Irish Family, whether you're Irish or not, you're still family!

Hackney's is famous for their incredibly sinful Onion Loaf, tasty burgers, great drink and lots of fun. Come join the Family!

It may be crowded and noisy on Friday and Saturdays, but that's just part of it's family atmosphere!

  • Pros: Friendly, Fun, Great Burgers
  • Cons: Crowded, Noisy

No better place to be on a Sunday afternoon than lost in the Hackney's labyrinth of dining rooms and lounges, soaking up the Glenview vibe (along with the delectable onion loaf grease!). Drink? Of course you'll have another! And a correction, maybe a Saturday night at the basement bar with an Irish band and a packed house of family revelers sets a better scene for you. Hackney's on Lake is all about atmosphere, tradition, fried beef and onions, plenty of whiskey, talk and laughter and families. Not a bad combination at all.

  • Pros: Atmosphere, Family friendly, Drink up!
  • Cons: It's not fine dining, Who cares?
