Double Char with Fries!

Best hot dog in the city - the double char is a classic. Its hard to find a good grilled dog these days. The other reviews are correct - the rest of the menu is solid too. I have had the burgers, chicken sandwich - its all good. The fries are great too. Nice and crispy, good flavor.

• Pros: double char dog, the fries, the friendly service, lots of parking
• Cons: its in Skokie! It can get loud here too...

Best in the North Suburbs

I have been going to Poochies for many years. While most places use Scala's Italian beef, Poochies gets it's beef from a different source. The Vienna dogs as well as the burgers are prepared perfectly. The best accompaniment to any sandwich are the fantastic fresh cut french fries. With an ice cold drink, Poochies can't be beat!

Skokie hot dog stand is fit for the most fanatical of Chicago dog lovers.

Located in the Poochie's Plaza, this dog stand wins fans of all ages. While a regular boiled Vienna Beef frank is available, the char dog stars, grilled and blackened, with a smoky flavor. A dog with everything includes relish, mustard, pickle, tomato, onions and celery salt; the staff actually refuses to put ketchup on a dog (it's un-Chicago). Fresh-cut skin-on french fries are the perfect accompaniment.

The Best Dogs are in Skokie - Who knew?

Whoever rated Flukys on Western Ave. better than Poochies could not possibly be a native of this great hot dog city. Poochies has the best dogs around, and all orders are cooked individually, a rare luxury for a grease pit (yes thats right - there's no bin of luke warm cooked fries like at Flukys or McDonalds - they don't cook anything 'till someone orders it). I would recommend a char dog (don't ask for ketchup on it!) and the cheddar fries - pipin' hot rough cut fries with a heap of REAL cheddar cheese on them - the best!

• Cons: , sometimes crowded, smelly place

Poochie's barks a lot of hype.

Poochie's is one hot dog stand that loves to pat itself on the back. Lots of press clippings, but does Poochie's live up to the hype? Well, the hot dogs were fine for a pseudo-Chicago style (pickles, tomatoes, & celery salt). The home-cut fries were decent. However, I think the cheddar-burger with everything is the stand-out item that is worth driving a long distance for. Prices were slightly pricey. Above average quality but overrated considering all of the press they get. Better hot dogs exist.

• Pros: cheddar burger, home-cut fries, decent dogs
• Cons: Overhyped, Overrated, pseudo-Chicago style

Best Burger By Far!

If you like burgers then this is the place for you! The char-cheddar burger is the best in the whole country! I should know, I've lived just about everywhere and I keep coming back to Skokie for the Poochies cuisine. It's not the typical cheddar cheese either, they use a "secret" cheddar that just melts in your mouth creating such a "to die for" flavor! This is a must have!

We travel from far & wide

Poochie's has been a family favorite for as long as I can remember. Now that we live all over the country, the first stop on anyone's trip to the area is for lunch (or breakfast or dinner or snack) for a hot dog and the best fries! From California to southern Florida to Lake Villa (which isn't another state, but almost) we will all vouch that Poochie's is THE BEST!

I'll be doggone

Not only are Poochie's hot dogs top notch but so is just about everything else on the menu. The fresh cut fries and skirt steak sandwich must be tasted to be believed.
