Great Hot Dogs, Greasy Fries
by SarahBL81 at Citysearch
I haven't eaten here in years, but I used to come all the time throughout high school. I love that the fries have to be double bagged because of all the grease. I'm a vegetarian now, but back in the day I would drive out there just to get two jumbo dogs and a big bag of fries. If you love hot dogs or sausage, go to Parkys!
- Pros: good food
- Cons: small parking space

Best Chilli-Cheese Dogs Anywhere

i've been going to parky's since i first started dating my now-ex girlfriend, Alison. She was the vision of crumbling beauty, lost hope, the American dream gone straight to hell. She first introduced me to Parky's early in our stormy and short-lived relationship together. She lived over on Maple, near Philander's, where we frequently enjoyed masochistic old jazz torch songs in their smoky barroom. I remember courting her in spring, and sitting with her on what of the outdoor benches, relishing our chilli cheese dogs and the bright, warm sunny weather. But there was a darkness beneath the facade of normalcy and contentment. At that moment at Parky's, she pulled out David Ratkoff's book Fraud, and i new she identified with every word in his troubling yet insightful distillation of self-loathing and alienation in America. I was not aware at that point that she had developed a huge habit, one that led her into marginalized communities of drunkards, prostitutes, g**g foot soldiers, and off course, dealers. A nice, suburban upbringing hid a truer, more macabre reality that pervaded her worldview, and which was at once terrifying and well as pitifully endearing. Parky's, in some way, normalized our troubled lives, which were both quite empty and misguided. A chilli cheese dog was all that mattered on that beautiful sunday afternoon- a respite from the harsh and vivid insanity that would characterize much of our time together. I know she's nine months sober now, though we have not had any contact for three years. I hope she's ok today... i hope she's found meaning and acceptance, peace and love. I still eat at Parky's today, without her... but sometimes, when the weather's just right, and i sip my fanta amidst big bites into my chilli cheese dog, i think of her...and i feel her next to me still.
- Pros: Simplicity without sacrificing Quality
- Cons: Never got my t-shirt
Parkys vs Gene & Judes
by cheezer at Citysearch
Two favs in Chicago. Gene & Judes and Parkys. Have to give the nod to Parky's! Dog close to Gene & Judes, Parkys fries are the best of two. Also Parkys has true Chicago feel. Nothing like a seat on the picnic bench during a warm summer day, and Parkys food. Have been to Super Dog and parkys is a cut above that stand! Italian Beef at parkys is good also, but it's the dog and fries that brings me back. They have cut down the size of their order of fries. Ask for fries "crispy" if you like them that way. A tip, take Madison west, turn first right and come into Parkys from alley. Parking in alley is better. Parkys can be crowded at lunch, if you are there by 11:00am or after 1:00pm. in and out is quick and parking is easier.
- Pros: dog, fries
- Cons: parking

Bargain dogs and terrific fries draw a West Side crowd to this tiny, mostly carry-out stand.

In Short
This compact orange-and-white A-frame has just a couple of stools at the window for seating, plus outdoor picnic tables during warm weather. Folks don't mind waiting for David Berg hot dogs--shorter and plumper than Vienna Beef, and steamed, not grilled. The basic dog gets mustard, chopped onion, pickle relish, tomato and peppers. Also available are chili cheese dogs, Polish sausages, grilled burgers, chicken sandwiches and Italian beef; all served with long, thin fries.
Parky's a pleasant non-Vienna alternate
by ppiszek at Citysearch
I just tried Parky's again for the first time in about 12 years, (don't get to Forest Park much).
That said, I would recommend Parky's as one of the best non-Vienna (David Berg) hot dog stands to be found in the Chicago area. They get a lot of things right. (Outstanding home-cut fries in the bag, no-frills service, 'hot-dog-hut' ambience with thier funky glass building, and very good polish and hot dogs.)
Finally their resonable prices and relatively ample parking for the area make this a place worth driving out of your way. Again, probably the closest non-Vienna hot dog stand to compare with Jimmy's or Gene and Judes.
- Pros: Delicious fries, Funky building, best non-Vienna HD
- Cons: , just a tiny cut below, Jimmy's ,Gene n Judes

Fries are a tastey greasy glob, tasty fresh-cut with skin. Classic.
fries to die for

I've been going to parky's since I was young and I loved them then because they are so greasy and they clump together. I have been back there since and they are still as good.
