Rude service and over priced drinks

by mbmiddendorf

This place is all smoke and mirrors. It looks nice on the outside but has some of the worst service I have ever encountered (rude and incompetent). Not to mention watered down over priced drinks. Pass this place up!

  • Pros: nice decor
  • Cons: rude service, over priced

This place is Beautiful!!! I threw a Birthday party therelast month and the staff was soooooooooooooooooooooo nice and helpful. They made everyone feel comfortable, the DJ played all our requests, and the wrist band drink specials were a plus!!!! I would definitely go there again.

Lincoln Park gets mod-ified by a fashionable lounge.

by Contributor

The Scene
Some mourn this space as the former home of the grungy music club Lounge Ax, but life goes on and newcomer Gramercy has moved in. It's an ultra-modern place, cleanly outfitted with white walls and booths plus steel accents. Lighting is dim, but you can make out a waterfall shimmering down the metal plates behind the front bar. Euro-lounge and techno gurgle from white speakers in the background. The crowd ranges from tricked-out, hip young folks to professionals whose idea of evening wear is khaki shorts.

The Draw
There's no cover, and fine bottles of bubbly (Cava, Pommery), international wines and martinis are priced to please at two bars. From the limited menu, a tasty pork chop with polenta is priced at a reasonable $9. The Gramercy martini is creamy and
pineapple-y (the charming staff like it as a shot).

  • Pros: attractive decorfriendly servicegood bar menu
  • Cons: underdressed crowdupscale feel not for everyone

Modern, Quiet, and Fancy Noshes

by mrkevin

Been back twice in a couple of weeks to this very NYC-type atmosphere. Each time, I've come rather early in the evening with friends and opted to get a nosh with drinks, so we sat in private banquettes. Its never been crowded. Everything on the limited menu is $9, and the preparation and taste is quite a good value: from the beef tenderloin with julienne veggies and potato wedges to the simple but ample jumbo shrimp cocktail. The service was friendly; the cocktails were stiff, but not overpriced considering the fancy minimalist decor. Could use a better DJ--music has been listed as electronica but it's not, just typical lounge fare. Still, Ill go back when I want a quiet night out for some drinks, great atmosphere, and a little food to boot.

  • Pros: Great Atmosphere, Decent Menu, Reasonable Prices
  • Cons: Few customers

Uncomplicated & Fun!

by ChiGirl101

I went to the Gramercy with a small group of friends from out of town and we had a great time. The menu was basic, but the food did not disappoint. The prices were reasonable, around $11 per entree. Our server was very friendly and the bartender served us with a smile. I absolutely loved the ambiance, minimal and sophisicated. I would definitely go there again.

  • Pros: Ambiance, People Watching, Simple Food
  • Cons: Loud

A GREAT ADDITION

by bthomasjones

I think that the Gramercy did a great job and I hope that they are very successful, as I wish the same for the guys at Bordos and Green Room, but lets stop having friends of the owners write reviews trashing other places. The more places for us all to choose from the better. I have been to the Gramercy on several occasions, have seen everyone having a great time, have never been charged a cover or discouraged in any way at the door, the food is great (and cheap), the drinks are great (could always be cheaper), I like the music, I like the staff, I like the room, and how anyone can say that a 30ft waterwall behind a bar is sterile is beyond me. Good luck to one, good luck to all!

Disappointing

by isa_nova

I always give every new spot the benefit of the doubt. When it comes to the Gramercy, I've given the place the benefit of the doubt on multiple occassions - only to be disappointed each time. The "sophisticated" decor is nothing more than sterile, the crowd...well, there never really is one. The owners say the place is too cool to have a philosophy - patrons I know think the place doesn't even have identity. One walk through and you won't see a single person looking like they're having a good time. Probably because everyone here is too busy trying to be "cool." Best bet - walk down the street to Bordo's!

  • Pros: ROMANTIC
  • Cons: IT'S EMPTY
