great color

I went to Gina for color correction after 2 years of fighting the dark, flat color my old colorist insisted on using time after time. Gina warmed it up and broke it up with very subtle highlights and will maintain it for me as the hair with its old color grows out.
Gina's style is direct and honest which is what I was looking for.
The staff she has could not have been kinder or more gracious to me and were very accommodating.
I was very pleased and the experience lived up to my expectation.
Nothing but the Truth!!

I dont usually make time in my busy schedule to write reviews, but since i found Salon Mor on this site i felt the need to respond to the negative reviews i also read. Recently my schedule has become very hectic. I am in and out of Chicago on business and often have to take what i can get as far as my hair is concerned. The front desk staff worked very hard to find an appointment time for me, calling me numerous times to answer my requests. As if that wasnt enough, Gina urged me to relax, take a deep breath, and enjoy my experience when i arrived frantically late. I knew my color and the condition of my hair were a mess. During my consultation Gina put me at ease and assured me she could tell by my hair what i was trying to achieve and that today i would have what i wanted. TO SAY THE LEAST! My hair is more than i thought it would ever be and feels better than it ever has. I was also given home care instructions an d was charged much less than i would've payed for such a miracle. Gina's assistant Jordyn assured me that they will always get me in no matter what my schedule, and i will always go to Gina.
- Pros: Everything

Laura gave me the haircut from my worst nightmare
by girl60610 at Citysearch
I don't want to trash the whole salon - I got great a great color correction- and had free corrective haircuts for a while after the hair cut disaster. I had liked the person who cut my hair when I went in for color the first time but the second time, I let Laura cut it at the recommendation of the colorist. My hair was about 15 inches long from the root with long layers and yet somehow my widows peak was an inch long when she got done and the whole thing was shredded into random pieces in between. Ugh. It has been almost a year and I anticipate it will be another 2 untill my hair is fully recovered from Laura's evil implement and intentions. It looks razored but I don't think that's what she used. All I can say is... Just don't!
I LOVED Salon Mor!

I'm new in Chicago and to my surprise found it extremely difficult to find a salon here that could work with my hair. I wanted to go someplace with good word of mouth, but no one really had any suggestions. I'm super picky about my hair and the trial and error form of salon hopping is not sweet when you're talking about having to live with a hairstyle. But when you're new in a city... c'est la vie. So, I found Salon Mor, made an appointment for a cut and color and crossed my fingers, pretty much.
Gina was awesome. She's knowledgeable and skilled about hair and color, she gave me the PERFECT shade of brown - dark, rich, espresso color. And she's nice... quirky, funny. She was great. The price for the color was more than reasonable and I would recommend everyone in the world get their hair colored by her.
I got my cut from Joe. And was equally as knowledgeable and skilled. My hair is perfect, and shock of all shocks, versatile!! It moves! Which is a pretty amazing feat considering I have course, curly hair and wanted it cut short. I can wear it curly or straight and it looks cute both ways. He put in great layers, NO RAZOR cutting, thank goodness, and he styled it beautifully. He knows what's going to look nice and what is practical, he just knows what he's doing.
Go to Salon Mor!!!
- Pros: Excellent cut and color for a great price
- Cons: none
High-caliber staff brings Hollywood-caliber attention to this classy Gold Coast salon.

The Space
Your visit begins with complimentary tea, cucumber water or wine spritzer. The simple gesture represents the personal service that partners Gina King and Var Fultz strive for as part of their anti-salon attitude. The mood is relaxing, with antique-like furnishings that take advantage of the salon's location in a 100-year-old Queen Anne-style home. Original inlaid wood floors are complemented by mini armoires for hairstyling tools, a large wooden hutch that displays hair products, cushy couches and chairs, and beaded lamps and drink coasters.
The Services
In addition to King and Fultz, the team includes other industry standard-setters. The salon's departmentalized approach means stylists stick to their specialties: Whether your tresses are in need of a cut, style, color, you get an experienced expert every time. Nail services include manicures and pedicures in a private, sunlit room.
- Pros: ComfortableExperienced staff
- Cons: ExpensiveNot for people in a rush
Good haircut, awfully petty people

I went to Salon Mor because I found a coupon for half off a cut if I bought a styling product. Actually, it said that such a purchase was "requested." Fine, I thought, I'll get some conditioner afterwards. I went in, was whisked away to get my hair washed and offered iced tea. Fantastic! The girl cutting my hair was nice and willing to work with me even though I had only a vague idea of what I wanted, and I like the cut I got, but it was everyone else there that made it a wholly unsatisfying and downright frustrating experience. From the people working there literally YELLING across the salon about how they hadn't gotten the food they wanted for lunch to the guys at the front desk (including Antonio) who couldn't figure out how to ring me up and ask why another gentleman was sitting on the couch, to telling me I had to buy a whole line of products ("it wouldn't be worth our putting out the coupon, and the price comes out to be the same") for TWICE the price of the regular cut, to then snickering and gossiping about the girl who cut my hair the second she turned around. GROW UP, I wanted to scream. Are these professionals or professional 14 year old gossips! Ugh. I'll NEVER be going back there, or referring my friends, which is a shame because I got a nice cut in the end, but I just can't take the stupid people running the place.
- Pros: good haircut
- Cons: stressful, frustrating people and environment
What a dissapointing experience...
by patelmap at Citysearch
Living overseas and knowing I would be in Chicago for two short weeks, I made my appointment with Antonio three months in advance. I was an Antonio regular when he was only $35 at Maxine's and couldn't wait for him to get his hands on my hair.
Well, what a dissapointment. Upon arriving, I was told he was running 30 minutes late. 30 minutes turned into two hours late (other clients, personal conversations, phone calls). I was offered no water, tea, coffee or anything to quench my thirst. I did, however, get a shampoo girl who pulled at my hair and couldn't follow Antonio's directions.
After long last Antonio was finally ready for me. He spent 15 minutes basically giving me the same cut except 4 inches shorter.
Knowing I was highly irritated, Antonio charged me half. Nice enough. But I would have rather paid full price and gotten the personalized attention a $100 haircut deserves.
What the heck are those people talking about?

Maybe they went there when the Salon was first starting out, but it seems to be stable now. The front desk staff is VERY accomodating to my needs, I wanted ice tea, they brewed it fresh for me, I needed waxing services, they called three different places until they got me an appointment, I had been with Mary for color (whom was ON TIME and very in tune with what I was saying) and afterward with Joseph who seriously made my hair look like a million bucks! I am biracial, so I was surprised that they could accomodate my hair given that it is not the typical caucasian or black hair. People (white/black/asain) stop me on the street and ask me where I get my hair done, I mean, if that's not a self esteem booster then I don't know what is. We go to salons to hope that we turn heads, if you say no-you're lying, and that's what I'm doing. I always have nothing but good things to say about Salon Mor, maybe because I'm not stuck up and I'm not expecting anyone to kiss my butt while I'm there. Oh and Carmen! She does thee most fabulous manicures and pedicures EVER! I know that a lot of businesses have a hard time getting it together, and I'd say that they've got it goin' on, (me too when I get my hair done!). There is always at least one person who will have a bad experience anywhere, but usually if you have a good experience somewhere, you never write about it-just the bad ones.
As long as I keep looking fabulous when I leave there, I'll darn sure keep coming!
- Pros: Skilled professionals who listen
- Cons: Parking-that's for anywhere downtown
SO, SO BAD
by marmiller at Citysearch
Talk about over-rated! I received the worse highlite/color job EVER! The Diva owner who was to color my hair farmed it off to her assistant,.too lazy to do highlites on long hair,.so she gave me an allover dreamsicle color, (I'm a brunette), w/4 highlites in front,..did NOTHING for my coloring,.cut sucked too. I had to spend more money to get it fixed somewhere else. Don't be fooled cause it's on oak Street,...they had to get on Oak street to make themselves look good,.that's all they got going for them, their address.
- Pros: NONE
- Cons: ALL IF IT
