Completely rude owner and staff. Dirty place with cochroaches.

by cupcake411

I have been here a handful of times. Certain dishes good. While others ..just ok. I must say the staff there was not so pleasant. Didn't seem to care about you and your needs. Always a long wait. I went there with my boyfriend. I ordered some fish dish. It was ok...a little too salty. The soup was good. But we were so disgusted as we started to eat our food, a little cochroach ran across our table. My boyfriend was so disgusted. He completely lost his appetite. So, here I was thinking eww gross, but sh*#t happens. They obviously need a better exterminator. Well from my boyfriend freaking out and refusing to eat any further. He told our waitress who didn't seem to give a damn. So, we then spoke with the owner. OMG!!! He was so rude and cocky. I couldn't believe how unprofessional he was. His exact words to us: Ok..so..a bug....they're everywhere right...You know....what do you want? Then he patted my boyfriend on the back and acted as if it was no big deal. As if cochroaches are a normal everyday thing at the restaurant. He then told us he would give us a 10 percent discount. Unbelievable!! We took 2 bites of our food. He should of not charged us at all. My boyfriend paid with his debit card. The waitress comes back and tells us it doesn't work. When it should have worked. It was as if they wanted us to pay cash, thinking our card was fake or something. These people here are so weird and rude. We have never ever gone back again!! This place should be reported to the health dept.

OK good, TERRIBLE service

by ErinAnn

I visited Yu's yesterday after I swore a few months ago I would never go back. The first time I had to wait 15 minutes for my waitress to come back to ask for the check. Then I waited another 20 minutes (no joke) for her to come back and take my money. Well the 20 minute wait was enough, she never showed so I took the bill up front to pay, only to notice the soft drinks she had asked if we wanted, were charged as a refill 3 times. I was never notified about the charge for refills and I did not ask for a refill, she offered. The manager did not take them off my check. Yesterday I asked the waiter for a little container for some of the sweet and sour sauce (i had 2 crab rangoon left) so you can imagine I needed a VERY LITTLE bit of sauce. He said he would charge me SO.... I put some of the sauce in my tea cup I never used and took off with it. The service at this restaurant is the worst I have seen. I took my sister as she was in town and she was not impressed AT ALL. I have never been to a restaurant with such terrible service.

Poor Service

by AdamN

The food was excellent. Unfortunately, the service from our waiter Raymond was absolutely terrible. We asked for soup while we were waiting for the remaining two members of our party to arrive. Raymond yelled at us saying that he wouldn?t do that. He stated it was too much extra work to bring our soup out first and then bring out their soup once they arrived. One of our party members also had to go grab him to bring drink refills. This was because he didn?t come to check up on us after our food arrived. Finally, he counted the money we left him right in front of us while we were getting our coats on. He then proceeded to question us on the 15% tip that we left. As far as our group was concerned, that was a generous tip for the unbelievably pour service. I?ve been to Yu?s many times and the service has never been good. This time was by far the worst though. My suggestion, there are plenty of good Chinese restaurants in the Schaumburg area that serve good food with great service. They deserve your money more that Yu?s does.

Disgusting Place - Black Hair in Food and Rude Service, Ownership

by ambitiousblonde

Had lunch here a few days ago. This is the second time I have been there in the past few months and found the place both dirty and the service horrible. When I found a black hair in the fried rice and informed the waiter, he simply shook his head and walked away!! I called him back and asked him to take the plate away since I had lost my appetite. When he charged me even though I didn't eat two forkfulls of my food, I asked to speak to the manager, who proceeded to ask what I wanted him to do about it??? I paid the bill in full and told the manager that he lost a customer. Disgusting place and horrible service to boot!

Advice

by lolisuck

For everyone that wrote a review 2 or less, you people SERIOUSLY GOT THE WRONG STUFF! That food you people ordered -- I could imagine the taste that you people were describing. What you should get is the real Chinese menu -- if you are not able to read Chinese, don't get beef or the non-flavor chicken. I am Chinese -- this is my second time there and it was great. The first wasn't as entertaining, but the second was just amazing. If some of you are complaining about service -- well, let's just say that they are sometimes friendlier to us maybe because we're Chinese, but I'm sure that some of you have wrote 5 out of 5 and are not Chinese and still think it is great service. This is probably because you are either lucky that your waiter was nice (like mine sometimes) or, they might think you are being too cheap by buying too little food. Heck, why would you buy so little food? All that waiting just to spend a couple dollars? Also, if you are going to be stupid like that, DEFINITELY use CASH. This is very important, because one of your reviews is about the credit and debit card business. This is my experience on Yu's Mandarin.

  • Pros: Great food, get to watch them cook (its amazing)
  • Cons: Extremely long wait -- we waited for at least 30 minutes probably more

How could you people say this food is good?

by shelearns

Good for whom? Maybe the northwest burbs is so lacking in good chinese you think this is good.

Last night I made and paid [costly by the way] a pick up order for 2. 2 soups, 1 appetizer, and 2 entrees. The cost was $34. I ordered wonton soup and the mongolean beef. My partner ordered the hot and sour soup and Szechuan chicken. The appetizer was fried dumplings.

*The meat in the dumplings was under cooked

*My wonton soup had shrimp with shells still on them [imagine my surprise and disgust when I crunched into soup]

*The mongolean beef tasted like shoe leather [seriously-hard and dry strips of meat]

*the chicken he ordered was deep fried [it was basically sweet and sour chicken wtih a different sauce-it was a joke]

I even tried to cut it in small pieces-but it was not digestible. It was late, and I threw it away. Knowing what poor quality of food it was, I called the manager today [less than 24 hours later]. He told me "You're the only one that has ever said our meat is like shoe leather-bring me back your food and Ill replace it".

Sure.. because I save all bad food for a wasted trip back to the restaurant to get it replaced by more bad food.

Over priced

Bad product

Bad customer service

Save yourself some time and get good chinese somewhere else.

The Best of the Best

by jabartnicki

Yu's is awesome, food, drinks, service all number one. Kids love the window view of the kitchen, which is a great touch. Staff very friendly and service prompt. Was first Chinese restaurant I ever tried back in 1996 and have yet to find one in the states that can compete. To Jeff and the rest of the staff, keep up the great work.

  • Pros: Food and Service
  • Cons: Busy, but if you want the best it is expected.

Bad Experience

by myal

I have heard of different bad experiences from my friends about the service of this restaurant until I experienced it myself. I ordered a take out one day, and went in to pick up the food. After I handed my debit card to the cashier, I was told with these specific words, "Next time, I will charge you ten dollars ".The noodle platter would only cost me $8. 65 including tax. I can tell from the look of his face that he was not happy, so i innocently asked "Why?". He proceeded to explain that the credit card company charges them with whatever amount of money if you use a credit card . I was trying to justify myself that the card I'm using is not a credit card(I guess this is the way how you are treated if you buy a menu of less than ten dollars?). He hurriedly scanned my debit card, while saying "It doesn't matter if it's a debit card"and ended up typing the numbers of the card on the register. When he was finished , he threw the card to me and said"It doesn't work" . I raised hell as I walked out of the restaurant with this words, " I will tell all of my friends not to eat in this restaurant again ! You are so rude! All I know is I'm a customer trying to buy food, and you're giving me a lecture about credit card fees!" That's the end of my story and I hope you learn from my experience.

Worst service

by mona11

Food was decent but the staff and the owner were nothing short of nasty. The waitress did not want to help in food selection (us being vegetarians), was very rude and when I complained to the owner, he said ' So ??'

Needless to say, I will never visit that place again...

  • Pros: Decent foodtoo much wait
  • Cons: non cordial staff and owner

Great food - if you can stand the wait and gruff service

by ad572

When I saw them proudly displaying their "Best Chinese" citysearch award when I picked up a carryout order today, I felt compelled to share that Yu's is now officially Way Overrated.

Now don't get me wrong, I was as enthusiastic a fan of Yu's as you could find when I first got to the area 7 years ago. The food is good, no doubt, but here's what's irritating: good luck finding a pleasant face on a staff member in that restaurant. It's really remarkable if you stop to look around while waiting for your carryout order--the entire staff just seems kinda angry.

I find myself getting increasingly steamed at how lacking the customer service is. This thought started when I brought a large group there only to have very very slow, impolite service such that I felt rather embarrassed to have suggested the restaurant. In return visits, the theme seemed to continue regardless of what server we'd have. They're always busy, so perhaps the thought is they don't need to be nice.

If you want great authentic Chinese food in the burbs, head up to Palatine to Szechuan House, aka laoszechuandotcom on Northwest Hwy at the Hicks Rd split in the Ace Hardware Plaza. There you have much nicer ambience inside, much friendlier management and staff, and far fewer crowds especially at lunch. The only thing they don't offer there that keeps me begrudgingly going to Yu's to get abused is the Noodle Platter, which sadly is to die for.
