Bad promoter, Bad Music
by desh at Citysearch
Not a good experience on 08/14/09.. I have been party VIP style all over Chi-town the last 10 yrs.. this is certainly the worst,...doormen have no clue on service neither does the promoter guy named terell or something. I drive my bentley or ferrari there and they are all over me, then i take a taxi they start having atitude!...music now BAD!! NOT GOING BACK AGAIN..Don't waste your time and money
Oh yeah, did I mention that they were discrimintory towards balck people?( black people cant come in with a t-shirt and gym shoes but white people can!).. I saw it happen yesterday!! (Just wrote a letter to consumer complaints, rainbow coalition and the mayor's office)
One word = TERRIBLE
- Pros: ??
- Cons: Terrible promoters and music
Da Place To Be
by socialbunny at Citysearch
I've gone to Soundbar several times. Its most def the place to be on a Saturday night. I think the only let down is the music should be a little louder. Other than that great crowd and place!
Bad Night!

Sound Bar is like the place to be especially when you are downtown chicago. Out of the many clubs that are present, I have never seen poor accommodation and nonchalant behavior by employees and bouncers before. It was freezing outside, and we were left waiting for a minimum of an hour just so the line could attract more people and look like there were thousands in the club. Besides the poor hospitality, the venue is really nice and ecclectic. The music is great as well. The advice I will leave with you is to be cool is to be early. Get there at 9pm so you won't be looking crazy at midnight when you can't feel your fingers and toes, the price inflates from free to $30, and everyone leaves the line to go home.
I always have fun here
by LoveChild01 at Citysearch
Some of my friends don't like coming here, but everytime I go, I always have fun. Saturdays are ALWAYS crowded, but I think the music is better on Fridays. Its usually crowded then too. I love how they always have random theme parties through the year, and you walk in, and some crazy stuff is going on. I went the other night, and they decorated the place like it was a garden, with flowers everywhere, and there was a giant HOT TUB with girls in bikinis everywhere. And when I went downstairs there were girls in cages and stuff. They said it was paradise lost, but whatever was going on, it was cool to just go somewhere and see something new. The staff here is great. At first, I thought they were really snooty, but then I started just talking to people, and they're actually cool. THIS IS A GREAT PLACE TO DANCE!!! They have two levels with different music, so you can always find something you like. I think my FAVORITE thing about this place is that its so diverse, ALL types of people go here and just have fun. There's not just plastic barbies(although they show up there too) but there's all types of races and different types of people having a good time. I love it!
- Pros: Great place to dance. Lots of bars so you can get lots of drinks.
- Cons: You can't come too casual or they wont let you in.
Bad customer service. Alright Club
by KC052908 at Citysearch
When I went I felt like I was at a junior high dance. Everyone was against the wall, hardly anybody was dancing with each other. The layout was cool, so I would say that it has potential. The reason I gave it 2 stars was because the door staff was very rude and very unaccommodating. I won't go into detail but they were real cocky and power hungry for some reason. That usually doesn't effect how good of a time you have but it did for me. I would say give it a try, it may be for you but I'm never going back.
The best Club/Bar in Chi-Town (-;

This has been the best club, I love the music.
The club itself is Classy.
No complaints from my friends and they can't wait for every Friday to come by.
Fridays this is the place to be at!

Not a bad time, but overrated
by vegitoboi at Citysearch
I just came here for my 26th birthday after a friend of mine (who is a promoter as well) helped set me up for free admission an whatnot (which saved me $20 admission). I don't think it's the club's fault that he didn't tell me the free champagne and table was only for parties over 20 people, but the company that he works for which I was skeptical of from the beginning. I'm not mad at him at all, but that's another story. Anyway, I was pretty much mislead to thinking this place would be big seeing that the logos on the windows can be seen from the brown line trains (like a 3 floor club). Boy was I wrong. The place has one main floor which has one small bar in one room with a DJ playing dance hits, a bar by the coat check, and a spacious main room both bars on either side and a elevated lounge area running the back wall with the DJ booth in center of the wall playing house music. The basement level is mostly lit in orange with ripped couches and the DJ playing hip hop. The free dirnk specials weren't too great: free bud or bud light or well drinks for the 1st hour. I'm still trying to decide whether if it was a good expereince or not. I like the fact that the floors are divided to your taste of music instead of 3 DJs playing whatever whenever. But I guess that's all I liked about the place. There are much better places to go if you only look away from the downtown scene.
- Pros: 3 different rooms depending on your taste of music
- Cons: overpriced, "specials" aren't too great, thought place would be bigger
AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!
by dd2008 at Citysearch
This place is a waste of time!!! with horrible service and very rude bouncers!!! I paid $86 for their NYE 07 bash and the power went out. I understand that power outage can happen and what bad luck it was for me to have it happen on NYE of all nights. The worst part of the night was not the power outage but that the bouncers were so rude once the power went out. A group of my girl friends were sitting on a couch right by the door when a big and rude bouncer threatend to kick us out if we did not get up. We told him we were waiting for our coats (the coat line was like 100 people long and took an hour to get through the line) since one of our friends was in line picking up coats for us. He then told us to either stand at the back of the line to wait for our coats or step outside to wait for the coat. We were not in anyone's way at all. Who in their right minds would kick a group of girls (wearing dresses) outside in 20 DEGREE SNOWY weather without their coats? This place is horrible. They need to re-evaluate who they hire to represent the company.
- Pros: None
- Cons: RUDE Service with bouncers thinking they can push you around.
New Year's Party A Bust
by partygirl143 at Citysearch
I was extremely disappointed by Sound-Bar on New Year's Eve. The power went out in the club which obviously put a damper on the party. I didn't even get in though I pre-paid over $80. This really sucked. I thought they would at least refund my money, but they didn't. What the heck?! I'm never going there again.
- Cons: They don't refund your money, even if they don't let you in.
Terrible management - rude doormen, rude customer service
by buddyzgrl at Citysearch
I pre-paid $86 to go to this club on New Year's Eve. I got there an the power was out - they made me stand outside in the freeeeezing weather for over half an hour and would not let me in to warm up. Eventually they told me it was likely they wouldn't let me in and told me to go home. I asked for a refund later but they wouldn't give me one and were rude over the phone. Terrible customer service.
What kind of club charges you $86 dollars to freeze outside on New Year's Eve? This was my first time visiting Chicago and I had high expectations of a fun night, only to be forced to go home and pay a ton of money.
