Great Seafood Dining
by scoper
I've been dining here for the past few years. The service is always good, as is the food. The exotic and colorful saltwater aquariums, along with the nautical theme theme, really sets this restaurant off. On weekends, they have very good live entertainment, with music to appeal to the 40's-70's crowd.
- Pros: Plenty of parking, great entertainment on weekends
- Cons: Usually need a reservation

Dover Straits (Mundelein) will seve you a usually excellent meal in nice surroundings. Great deep fried jumbo shrimp.
Be sure to check out the various aquariums - some very exotic
fishes.
the worst seafood restaurant I've ever been to.

My girlfriend and I had a horrible lunch today. Not because of the service, which was prompt and courteous, but because of every other conceivable thing. In non-smoking it stunk of smoke. The salad dressings were watery. The food was bland, and the food they did season tasted horrible. It also seemed funny that not only were the guests elderly, the staff seemed to be as well. Overall, Dover is a nautical themed dining room appropriate for a nursing home.
- Pros: has a parking lot, roof doesnt leak, pets not allowed
- Cons: The food, The ambience, stinks of smoke
A nautical theme sets the stage for good seafood in the suburbs.

The Scene
This suburban seafood oasis caters to quiet couples and multi-generational families, with comfortable dining booths and a welcoming bar. Laden with rigging and relics, the sedate nautical atmosphere perks up with dancing to a live musical combo on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday nights.
The Food
The moderately priced menu of traditional seafood--along with several non-seafood selections--is headlined by higher-ticket items like Australian lobster tail and king crab legs. Appetizers include clam chowder soup and a captain's platter combo, a generous starter of standard oysters Rockefeller, clams oreganotta, crisp fried calamari and smoky barbecued ribs. The signature Dover sole amandine is firm-fleshed and succulent; flounder Wellington with shrimp, scallops and spinach in phyllo pastry with lobster sauce is a richer option.
- Pros: solid foodgood valuepleasant atmosphere
- Cons: slow service

Dive into freshness

A contemporary nautical surrounding invites you into a world of succulent seafood. The menu provides a host of mouthwatering choices that even the non-seafood lover can appreciate. My party was extremely satisfied with our meals. A well-mannered staff aims to please while giving you a regal treatment, but their sluggishness make them fall a little short. Overall a really enjoyable place for excellent food, just be prepared to be patient.
- Pros: Fresh, Atmosphere
- Cons: Slow, Crowded
More times than I can remeber...

I have been visiting the Hoffmann Estates location for over a decade and have been very happy with each and every visit. As many of you well know our suburban choices are a bit more limited than those of the city, but Dover is a standout in the seafood category. Crab is a favorite of mine here, I recommend the soft shell crab or stone crab for starters followed by the Alaskan King Crab as an entree. The portion is quite large. With all the people I've brought here through the years we have tried just about all the offerings and they all are quite enjoyable. Also check out the fresh or daily menu which changes often.
- Pros: portions, quality, freshness
