It is the typical college diner type place. Great food, huge variety, well priced. I eat here every time I come back to campus, and it never disappoints!

Found a small insect on an omelette

They just ruined my lunch, it was the most disgusting experience I ever had in my life. Howcome there was a small insect in my omelette? I am a foreign citizen, I have been in 4 continents, one of them Africa and this has never happened to me before. The behavior of the manager was completely inadequate also, I complained and she didn't give any reasonable answer. The place is full, but it's grose. I am sure that that kitchen is sistematically dirty, don't eat there. Where can I complain about this? This can't be just like that.

A great breakfast, lunch, and dinner place

All i have to say is that over the last 2 years the service there has improved big time the staff isnt the same there has been a couple of changes and i would say for the best. i dont understand why some people say that they have been there more than once and the service is horrible.... why would you keep returning if you've had a bad expericence? I agree that sometimes on the weekend there is a long wait but hey your not the only one thats waiting to be seated... the food is great and so is the service! This is a diner not a fast food resturant... if you want fast service walk over to burger king!

Re-review

I'm going to amend my review from before. They have definitely improved their service in the half dozen or so times I've been there since I wrote my first review. Better service from the wait staff overall, better food quality, and no screw-ups on orders. To answer the last reviewer's question, we keep going there because there aren't all that many choices if you don't want to go ethnic all the time in downtown Evanston, and Clarke's has always been better on the price side.

• Cons: limited space when full (but like many other restaurants)

CLARKE'S IS THE WORST PLACE TO EAT IN EVANSTON

The only redeeming quality of Clarke's is the decent food. However, the poor service (if you can even call it that) leaves a bad taste in the mouth. The servers are slow and unfriendly. On one occasion my server complained to another server in Spanish in front of me that I brought my check up to the register instead of waiting for her to come to get it, but I had waited long enough and had to go back to work. On another occasion, I picked up an order from there, which they aknowledged getting wrong, but they refused to refund that part of the order, only telling me that I could drive back over and get something else or come back another day for a replacement. **HORRIBLE***

GO here to be treated like dirt.

Disrepectful and very bad treatment - my friend and I were told that we had to leave there was a long line of people waiting to be seated. (11:00 AM Sunday) As we left, we saw 5 empty tables and no one waiting to be seated. The manager said it is their policy to ask people to leave after an hour and a half. We are very sad to be treated like dirt. This is my son's favorite restaurant - we have been going there once a month for 14 years and now will never go back.

After a night of going out and winding up at the lounge next door we decided to take the hopskip next door for late night chow. The tomato soup was incredible, the skillet dish and omelettes hit the spot and the patty melt was great. (We shared) Definitely an intresting crowd.

Clarke's Rocks

I have been eating at Clarke's for over 8 years. The food is excellent, the service is good ALMOST all the time, and if I want a burger at 9:00am or an omelette at 10:00pm and a baked apple pancake at 5 in the afternoon I can get all three anytime. Oh, and how about that Tomato soup.

• Cons: Tough to Park, Waiting line when BZ, too loud sometimes
