Best Indie Wine Store Evah!
by chinese_hat_trick at Citysearch
The single best indie wine store in the city. Now here are some people who actually know and love the wine they sell! I have been all over the place (boystown, evanston, andersonville, edgewater, downtown) buying wine, this place has it all!
Anything you want to pair, from osso bucco to BBQ potato chips their staff is up to it. When you walk in, I swear, its like being in europe! the minute you enter in the door you are surrounded by beautiful smells, warm saffron coloured walls, and exotic music. I havent been to any of their tastings but I would like to in the future! I hate to do this and let everyone know, but if you want allocated, rare wine this is the real deal. I found a bottle of Pride merlot, and a Turly zin that made my hunny tear up when she saw it! you have to shop here if just to hear the managers sell wine to other people! this place is amazing and real without the snottiness, pretention, or trendy interior coldness i have gotten elsewhere.
Great wines for every price

Approachable wine shop with everything from simple chardonnay to boutique bottles.

The Scene
A common stop for the neighborhood post-collegiate and sophisticated wine enthusiast alike, this sunflower-hued seller offers a pleasant alternative to the snootier, big-box spots. Welcoming in a Provencal sort of way, comfy chairs, mahogany woodwork and a diverse but unintimidating selection of vino threaten to make this a regular haunt.
The Goods
A gilded blackboard boasts specials hailing everywhere from California to France and Spain. Known for procuring boutique bottles such as Turley Zin, as well as introducing neophytes to affordable vintages like Italian Barbera red for $10 or Douglass Hill cab for $20, this laid-back spot makes virtually everyone interested in wine feel at home. A fairly extensive refrigerated section features upwards of 40 chilled whites and 20 champagnes, and fanciful accessories (think identifying magnetic charms and gift-worthy corkscrews) can be found throughout the store.
- Pros: Boutique selectionpersonalized service
- Cons: Parking difficultsmall quantities
