Stately hotel cafe offers American standards in an elegant and spacious setting.

by Eric Grossman at Citysearch

The Scene
While many hotel guests come down from their rooms dressed in jeans and sweaters, the Cafe's dressed-up menu and formally-clad wait staff lend an air of sophistication. With its seats sprawled on the edge of the Ritz's handsome lobby, the Cafe's airy setting feels as if it could be outdoors. (Skylights, towering ceilings and a view of the fountain add to the elegance.) Friendly waiters, eager to assist with menu selections, deliver selections from a wine list where prices soar into the hundreds.

The Food
The Cafe's versatile menu, best described as an assortment of American standards dressed up with international flavors, runs the gamut from lighter fare to heavier dishes. Typical entrees include Moroccan-spiced chicken with chickpea fries and broccoli rapini, and Wild Alaskan salmon with sesame-braised bok choy in a ginger-soy hijiki broth. Seasonal soups, artful salads and giant slices of signature cakes round out the offerings.

Best Unique Chicken Noodle Soup

by soupsearcher at Citysearch

I'm a huge soup fan, and learned of the phenomenal chicken noodle soup at the Ritz Carlton a few years ago from a co-worker. It is served in an impressive ivory tourine, and is THE best chicken noodle soup I have ever had. It's well worth the modest cost, and the ambience truly makes this memorable. I often lunch there alone, but have brought many friends there to experience this soup. It is chock full of vegetables, and little "nubs" of chicken with a delicious rich broth. Did I mention it's PHENOMENAL?????

We really liked it!

by epicurious91 at Citysearch

I can't believe we could afford to eat here, but we had breakfast at the Ritz, and it wasn't too expensive. It was about what you would pay for lunch at a decent sit-down place. I had french toast made with fresh raisin bread. It was $13 bucks, but when if you want to do "The Ritz" as an experience, not a bad admission price. I enjoy the company of my sweet wife, big windows, good service, etc. The staff made us feel very welcome.

  • Pros: Good, upscale food, service, surroundings
  • Cons: Not cheap, of course, (but worth it)
