Depends on technician!
by snyc
I went to the Peninsula twice for a facial and reflexology. I had Erin and she was amazing! I have sensitive skin and she ensured that I would not have adverse results by testing two products in small patches. Only then did she apply the products. She was super sweet and took her time. Next time I went, Erin was booked, so I got Isabelle.I explained to her about my skin and what Erin had done. She acted irritated and impatient and said that she did not have the time to do all that and its not what she does. She then acted quite rude and gave me attitude the whole time. Anyways, lesson learned. Avoid Isabelle and go to Erin!
- Pros: Ambiance, Service with Erin
- Cons: Service with Isabelle
Best spa in Chicago
by aspagirl
I had the most amazing experience at the Peninsula Spa. The entire spa staff was extremely helpful and made my experience one I will not forget. I had the Ama Releasing Massage. I am a seasoned spa goer and it was so refreshing to find a spa that actually has services that I have never received. The facility was beautiful and they truely paid attention to every detail. I live in Chicago and will definitely be back! Amazing spa!!!
- Pros: Fantastic therapist, unique treatment, beautiful spa
- Cons: I wish I could go every day!
TECHNICIAN TEXTING WHILE GIVING REFLEXOLOGY
by SarahSpa1
Where do I begin? I went to this spa for my 30th birthday for a facial and reflexology. While Shanna was giving me reflexology she sat at the bottom by my feet texting on her phone. When I tried to sit up she hid the phone and claimed it was a timer. I complained to the manager and did get a gift certificate, but upon return months later found out Shanna is still working here. At $155 for reflexology is it unreasonable to ask that the technician put her phone down? I've never heard of this before! When I went back the girls up front were so stupid they charged me 11% sales tax on an item I bought. This spa is very pricey, but filled with complete idiots who make what should be a nice, relaxing experience, completely miserable. Relaxing at home would be nicer than ever entering this spa again! Avoid it.
- Cons: Technicians text message while giving reflexolgy--at $155 a service! Very bad!
Not a guest out of luck.

Lame. Called to make a reservation for the weekend spa and was told that the spa was only open "to the public" M-Thursday. They really should note that on the website and citysearch should note it as well. If you are a not a guest tough luck.
Good technician, but broke out from products
by kparker23
I have gone to this spa everytime I'm in Chicago and have loved it. Great service and ambiance. I hadn't been there in awhile, but went in for a facial. Apparently, they switched skin care lines from the last time I had been in and and I tried a Brightening Facial. The esthetician was wonderful and I was very relaxed. Unfortunately, I experienced a horrible reaction from something in the products. Sad, because I never had this happen at previous visits.
- Pros: Great technician
- Cons: Broke out after treatment
Rather pricy, but well worth it - if you're looking for classic luxury, this is the place

One thing I can vouch for is the consistency of quality that the Peninsula hotel/spas offer. I've been to 3 Peninsula locations and haven't been disappointed yet. The spa experience @ the Peninsula is what a spa experience should be... luxurious, relaxing, accommodating, and well-appointed ... the facilities and decor were classic and extremely luxurious - I appreciated the attention to detail in terms of appealing to sight, sound, touch, and taste - spacious locker rooms and traditional roman/rain showers, luxurious white furnishings, fragrant flowers everywhere, ambient music, fruit waters and nuts everywhere, and plenty of staff members to jump to attention when you so much as nod. The massage therapist was very attentive, talented, and not talkative, the massage room was spacious and well-appointed, and the massage/aromatherapy products they used were appealing to the senses. The facialist was wonderfully old-school; excellent facial process and massage technique, products were applied and well-steamed, and thorough extraction/cleansing. Although the pedicurist could have been a bit more thorough, she was very good and the results were consistent. I highly recommend it if luxury, attention, and service is more important than price.
- Pros: incredibly luxurious, consistently solid service, classic spa surroundings, good value
- Cons: a bit pricy and gets booked up quickly
A posh address in the Penisula Chicago lures money and celebrity into this sleek oasis for luxurious, Asian-inspired treatments.

In Short
Swiss sauna meets South Beach in this contemporary bi-level spa that ups its cool factor with a private terrace and yoga studio. Pine walls on all sides warm up an open lobby decorated simply with fresh-cut orchids, but the gem is a mosaic-tiled lounge overlooking the pool area, where power brokers relax on stuffed chaises in between massages, facials and other treatments. Staff members are ESPA-trained, focusing on holistic European and Asian therapies.
- Pros: Skilled therapistsimmaculatein-room treatments
- Cons: Fee for whirlpool and pool usepricey
Top hotel does not translate to top spa
by johns_stacy
The spa lacked detail to make the experience worth the money. I had high expectations because the hotel executes so well. The spa did not pamper your senses which I expect of a top spa. There were no flowers in the locker room. The retro fitted spa ignored the ceilings (at which you stare during your treatments). They were form drop in boards that reminded me of my elementary school. The layout is very broken up and not conducive to lounging without constant traffic. The menu is from the hotel. It is not spa centric and was hard to find a vegetarian dish or light lunch. They actually had burgers on the menu. The facial was good however lacked detail as well. I had the cleansing facial and came out with mascara lines under my eyes. A common spa oversight but should not happen in a top spa.
- Pros: friendly people, good location
- Cons: lacked detail, choppy layout, small

I had a spa day at the Peninsula Spa and I felt the services and customer service were very lacking of what a spa on Michigan avenue can provide.
I am a hairstylist and I believe I know what good service entails. My green tea body wrap was rushed and not properly applied . My nail services were horrilbe. The nail tech talked about her personal problems the whole time and the next day my polish chiped right off. My facial was the only acceptable service.
- Pros: facials
- Cons: , expensive, nail services
