I've been to this place twice in the last 2 months. Yes, I go to get my haircut every 4 weeks, sometimes 5 if I'm on vacation. One of my buddies rec'd this place years ago, but haven't gone till recently because the place I was going to screwed me up bad! My girlfriend even went with me last time to get a dye job and loved it, guess she'll be back. Overall, great place. Very talented people and in with my girl, that's a bonus. UPDATE...on thursday.Rec'd this place to a bud and he went today and had great experience too. Like that they have guy mags too-maximetc.

Today was my first visit to Red 7 Salon in Evanston and I was VERY impressed with the level of service, friendliness, and professional staff. My hairdresser was Kelsey and she took the time before the shampoo to ask me about what I wanted done, about shaping my haircut, level of maintenance (for me it's low), and to give her expertise recommendation on what she would like to do based on my hair (thick and course), my face shape, and my lifestyle. Brilliant. The person who shampooed my hair also did a very relaxing scalp massage, and later came and gave me a complimentary hand massage while my hair was getting cut. I felt very pampered! Kelsey gave me an excellent cut, knew exactly what I wanted, and exceeded my expectations. The salon is clean, is well stocked with the whole line of Aveda, but other high quality items too, and is a pleasant and welcoming environment. I feel like I found my next great salon! I have been at my previous place for over 10 years, so this change is refreshing. I highly recommend! Check out their website...they have coupons for first time visitors. I used one that gave me $20 off the haircut today. Score!

Pros: Friendly and accommodating staff, highly skilled stylists, tastefully decorated shop

Cons: Because it's high end, so are the prices. I wish I didn't have to spend a fortune on a haircut.

You name it, I've been to it: Mario Triccoci, Asha, Art & Science, even Cost Cutters! Not until I went to Crystal at Red 7 did I start to understand how a good hairdresser is like a that one pair of jeans that your butt always looks good in. I have very short hair and therefore a bad cut could mean a disaster for this chick. Crystal knows what I like and even more so, she knows what looks good on me. I have been to her now around 6 times and I'll never go anywhere else. I kid you not, it is close to impossible for me to have a bad hair day now. The greatest thing about Red 7 is that they give you a cut that is manageable and not one where your left standing in front of your bathroom mirror thinking, "How the hell and I'm supposed to get my round brush to do that?!" Red 7 delivers time and time again.

This could be a best kept secret thing in Chicago. I'm going to tell my buddy at the Trib. My roommate recommended me to go to her shop (Buzz?) - they didn't have any openings. I called Seven Red and was really happy with the way everything went. They could get me in pretty quickly, although I had to cancel a meeting last minute. My scruffy caterpillars were "MANSCAPED" by Coreen and then I got to get acut with Laura. Both of them were pretty cool. Great job. Will talk it up to my roomie now.

Pros: great job

Cons: wish it was closer to my office

I've been to this salon a few times, to Steven in particular...I would recommend him to anyone who expects only the best hair (his color work is sick!!!), the most professionalism, and a heaping dose of sass!! This guy's got it all....and he took me from super dark to blonde, to blonder, to just absolutely amazingly blonde!! The shop was a bit empty, but that didn't scare me really, mainly because I walked out of there looking like a million bucks, thanks to Steven. Ooooh!!! Bonus, I got a really, really nice scrubbin' at the shampoo station, that's one of my favorite parts.

Pros: Amazing Stylist!!

Cons: Parking is Lame.

What do you think a high maintenance girl is all about? Of course, my hair!!! I rec'd red seven. I've been to the salon five times and have had pretty good experience each time. One time they even knew it was my birthday and gave me a glass of champagne and some chocolate. Amazing. They are more about getting to know me and my hair, which I appreciate but don't necessarily think is crucial. I'm a major nervous Nelly, but they conquered my fear. I would recommend Ivy for color and Crystal or Jaci for a cut.

Pros: they knew my birthday

Cons: walking the stairs

I'm always scared about changing colorists and salons, but went ot Red 7 on a fluke. It's close to my work and needed to have them done before having Thanskgiving dinner with my family. So, got them done here and am really thrilled with the color. The professionalism was great (my last colorist answered her cell phone while putting color in), the atmosphere is too cute, the colorist was great with ideas on what to do. I tried a different placing this time, based on her suggestion, and glad I did. Even my grandma, who is always really critical, loved my new hair. I made another apt to go back next week for a cut - excited about it.

Pros: charming and professional

Horrible experience. I wanted extensions. My hair was thin after finishing a series of difficult exams as well as a very sad divorce. The first time they did the extensions, everything was great. The hair was silky, smooth, gorgeous... so I trusted them. However, the second time, the hair they put in was completely inferior quality (the price, however, was the same). They also put in about 50 more pieces than before. In the month afterwards, the hair knotted up constantly and was completely unmanageable. It took me over 1 hour of brushing and blow-drying just to get it barely straight, and I had bruises on my collar bones from brushing so much! After only 1 month I had no choice but to get them removed at the risk of losing all my own hair that was left. It took 3 extremely painful and expensive hours at another salon to remove the gel roots, because after only 1 month they are still very strong. I called and wrote very sad and angry emails to the salon, and the only snotty reply I got was that I could have 50% off my next service. Since they knew what I had been through, I hoped they would react with a bit more human compassion, but they cared less about my situation. They destroyed my already fragile hair completely and 1.5 years later my hair is still not at complete recovery.

have been going to cristal (crystal?) for a while, and she is a genius - and adorable to boot. i highly, highly, recommend her for long or short cuts. however, whatever you do don't book with corrinne for color (though she is very nice!). i showed her a picture and explained exactly what i wanted, but she gave me something totally different. everyone said it didn't look bad, and maybe it didn't - but the point is that it was nothing like what i asked for! perhaps there are other good colorists there, so don't rule it out necessarily for color.

Pros: great cuts. great atmosphere.

Cons: bad color!

Being new to chicago, I found this salon online and made my appointment wth Meryl. I was a little hesitant trusting my hair to a stranger, but she was so warm and a great listener (and great sense of style). very thorough consultation put my mind at ease just in time for my shampoo and head massage. THe whole time i was surrounded with genuine conversation, kind people, relaxation- and a killer haircut that i get compliments on everyday. ive been reccommending this place to all my friends. definitely exceeded all my expectations. plus, they have wine! gotta see for yourself.

Pros: Massage, atmosphere, get what you pay for, staff

Cons: difficult parking
