The Speakeasy Supper Club is out of business. The building has been sold to Uncommon Ground, a Lakeview restaurant with a great track record. The community is excited to have them coming here.

poor communications

by jeffster3170 at Citysearch

Went on a Saturday night and waited for a table no problem with that, waited for almost an hour for our food to come to the table after the order was placed and it only came after questioning where it was. The waiter pretty much dissappeared during this time. We had no idea what was going on. Only one of the entrees was edible. I feel for the prices that they are charging the food should be out of this world and excuses should not be made to cover for bad food. Also while waiting for our table the seats by the entry are right outside of the bar and smoke pours out of the bar area into this entry way and is really smelly

  • Pros: Parking, large space
  • Cons: noisy, slow service

Awesome Experience

by itypealot at Citysearch

My sister and her husband took us for dinner to this restaurant that they discovered in their new neighborhood. The menu was just mouth watering.....we each picked a different item and everything was outstanding. It was everything they bragged about and it truly exceeded our expectations. Bring your own wine makes it even more specialy, because you are drinking what you are accustom to without the high prices. Definitely a keeper!

  • Pros: Delicious, Romantic, Plenty of parking

Eclectic eats and entertainment make a big noise at this lively Edgewater B.Y.O.B.

by Contributor at Citysearch

In Short
Bringing together the likes of ivory-tickler Michael Feinstein and South owner Jody Andre, Speakeasy draws a hip, mixed-aged, raucous crowd on a busy night. Exposed brick and red walls are adorned with celeb portraits; a Baldwin piano rests on a raised stage. The grazing menu is eclectic; favorites include tempura artichoke hearts, hearty stuffed portobello mushroom, scallops in beurre blanc with sauteed spinach and chili-infused chocolate creme brulee.

  • Pros: good for grazinglively atmosphereasset to neighborhood
  • Cons: uneven food and servicecan be too loud for conversation

Worth the Wait

by briansteiling at Citysearch

Finally the doors are open at this welcomed neighborhood addition. Brick walls look great but unfortunately don't damper the sound as the place gets packed. The creative ostrich in a pastry wrap definitely takes the prize. Skip the salmon. Normally a chocolate cake can be boring--but not the one this restaurant serves. Almost like a brownie, with cappuccino ice cream and chocolate covered espresso beans, its an award not to be missed.

  • Cons: Noisy, Pricey
5 Star Rating: Highly Recommended

Best New Restaurant

by ohyesyoudid at Citysearch

Deep rich red wooden accents with an art deco flair, this place is perfectly named Speakeasy! What a stylish, reasonable, fun place! Separate "bar" area with smoking away from other customers, beautiful dining area (even in "bar"). It's BYOB which adds a sense of adventure, like you're really sneaking in something bad and coppers are on the sly. If you haven't been, GO! And then vote for it as Chicago's Best New Restaurant. An upscale place to go to without leaving the New North and without unloading the money you would in Lincoln Park and Lakeview... Did I mention the food? Enough already.
