outstanding service, great view, nice bar!. I have stayed at some of the finest hotels in the world, the service at Hotel 71 is by far the best I have ever experienced. They go way beyond the norm to make you feel at home. After a very bad traveling day, and showing up very tired and angry, they had a smile on my face as soon as I got to the front desk. It was pretty much...don't worry, your at hotel 71 now...and the rest of my stay was the same way. The bar was nice with a very friendly staff. The food was not great and a bit over priced even for Chicago loop but I still gave 5 stars for service. I can go a couple doors down for great italian food. Hotel 71 will always be my choice in Chicago!

Fabulous View. I've read endless bad reviews on this hotel and I can understand some of what was said but I think that they're just too picky! I've stayed a week and i've not received exceptional service--there was nothing that I needed. Ice on the 38th floor--who cares--someone left our ice bucket filled every day! Beautiful view!!!! We were automatically upgraded to superior riverview--i recommend it! There is street noise, but it's white noise--it never kept us awake. We're in the middle of everything--easy to catch buses, subways, taxis, etc. Shopping, Navy Pier, parks and much more within walking distance. Furniture simple lines, lighting--good, bathroom--2 sinks seperate from shower, deep tub and toilet. Bath and Body toiletries in room. Stereo and large flat screen tv in room. Someone said something about the closet in the bathroom, but it wasn't in our room. We had to walk out of elevators a few times that didn't seem to work, but there was always another waiting. Rooms were clean and the beds were made attractively each day. There was not a mini bar in our room if that's important to you. Corner Cafe is seconds away and there is a coffee maker in the room. There are numerous restaurants within walking distance--we recommend Giordianos Pizza--get the stuffed pizza and the chopped salad. Remember to weigh what you expect against what you expect to pay. This was a good 3.5 star hotel. No restaurant, but they did have room service ( I don't normally eat it the hotel as there are so many choices in the city!) I would recommend this hotel.

Avoid this hotel. I had a horrible experience at this hotel from lost reservations (yes more than 1) when I confirmed everything with the manager about 3 hours previous to arriving. This is after I spent thousands of dollars on a meeting there...the penthouse was disgusting...the only good thing about the penthouse to have a meeting in is the view. The hotel as a whole has a kind of dirty feeling to it...which is kind of gross. The service of the front desk people is a lack of service. Just as an FYI if you plan to park there the parking is not like a good hotel where it is added to your bill...you pay all your nights up front. to the parking service next door. It was awful!!!

CHAOS!. You would probably think you are playing a part in a horror movie as soon as you check into this hotel.Confused management, understaffed, thin walls, horrific lobby decor,Non-functioning elevators, (l got stuck in it once)no restaurant, no minibars in the rooms,no vending machines either.l overheard the staff saying that since the new General manager started in Nov 07,at least 10-12 people have left out of disgust,he apparently has some racist-related demons to deal with as well as some education on hotel management.Disgusting hotel.

Others are much better. Good: Location, room size Bad: Everything else. The walls are so thin that we could not sleep all night. The movie channel didnt work. No conceirge. We never stay in the same Chicaog hotel twice. There are too many to try to select this one. Pay more money and get something you can be happy with. This was a waste.

Loved It. My family had a great experience at Hotel 71. I notice that others have been critical of service here, however we experienced helpful, friendly and overall excellent service during our short visit. We were allowed to check in early and got a free upgrade without even asking. Views are wonderful, and its nice to see such creativity in hotel decor. Yes renovations are ongoing, and that may present problems, but we had a great time.

And the best part: the rates were very reasonable for the center of downtown Chicago!

HATED THIS NASTY PLACE IT IS CRAZY RUDE. THIS IS THE WORST PLACE I HAVE EVER STAYED AT IN MY LIFE AND I HAVE STAYED HERE ALOT. THE DOOR MAN IS SO RUDE AND DOESN'T HELP BRING OUR BAGS TO THE CAR ESPECIALLY SINCE THERE WAS NOBODY TO HELP WITH OUR BAGS WHEN WE ARRIVED AT THE HOTEL. STAFF WAS RUDE AND THE NOISE LEVEL WAS SO HIGH I COULD NOT EVEN SLEEP. THE BATHROOM WAS GROWING MOLD! DISGUSTING! DON WASTE YOUR MONEY HERE YOU WILL ONLYU LEAVE WITH A MIGRANE.

Nice river views and that's about it.. I can't say enough bad things about this hotel, but first, two caveats: 1) I was there with a large group--approx. 100 people--and, 2) the hotel was renovating some of its floors. Still, from beginning to end, everything about Hotel 71 (with the exception of our room's view out over the river) was a disaster. The guy who "greeted" us at the kerb was rude when helping us out of the cab and when helping us back in at the end of our stay. The perfect bookend. (Note to mgmt., fire Kareem). When we entered the lobby it was total bedlam. Most of the rooms weren't ready and their bag-check room wasn't big enough to take our bags. Even at 4pm that afternoon many of the rooms still weren't ready. I don't know if the elevators were part of the renovations, but every time I rode an elevator at Hotel 71 I had to wait 5 minutes. (The morning of the second day they claimed to have repaired the elevator problem, but there was no improvement.)

Our room was relatively comfortable, and I think my mattress would have been fine had there not been a large dead spot along one side. The bathroom I suspect was in mid-renovation: our bathtub was chipped, paint was peeling down from the ceiling, the water pressure was weak, and the temperature barely more than tepid.

My expenses were paid for this trip, so I don't know Hotel 71's rates, but I definitely would not pay urban hotel rates to repeat the experience.
