Cold Dogs, not Hot Dogs
by Amross16
I go to this place quite frequently, but will stop. I was overcharged sales tax. The polish and hot dogs are cold; plus you have to asked for ketchup for the fries which are cold as well. The service is not the greatest either.
- Pros: Right across the street from work
- Cons: Bad food at times, stay away from hamburgers
Not worth the trip anymore

I used to love visiting Gold Coast Dogs, but things have changed. Today I was running an errand and saw a sign for a new (to me) Gold Coast Dogs at the train station. So I dropped by to order a char dog and an order of cheddar fries.
They still call them cheddar fries, anyway, but they're not. Their fries might still be good, but instead of giving me the nice on-the-side cup of cheddar spread to dunk them in that I was expecting, they poured ladles of that horrid, crappy nacho faux-cheese sauce on them. So my fries were soggy and disgusting -- and they threw them into the bag on top of my hot dog. The wrapper and the napkins they'd put at the bottom of the bag wound up coated in faux-cheese, too. I ate my hot dog but had to pitch the fries, which were a waste of money.
in the absence of Ted's, the best Chicago has to offer for 'dog lovers
by pupchen
God bless those of you who love char dogs, the only way to eat hotdogs. In all of the United States, the very best hotdogs are Ted's, only to be found in Buffalo, NY and Phoenix AZ ( baseball spring training thing) but those of you who love Gold Coast would love Ted's, would weep in fact. Gold Coast is undoubtedly the best char dog in Chgo ( I eat them at O'Hare and suffer on the plane); while they do a good job, they don't have the best product to "char". Fries are a little wimpy, it's true; kind of a cross between steamed and deep fried. But hey, if you can't get to Ted's, you gotta go with Gold Coast. Another really dog good place in North Chicago on the cross roads of Rockland and Waukegan. Don't remember the name but it's the only dog joint there. Stop by Pasquesi's garden store on your way back down Waukegan. Unbelievable.
- Pros: Best chardog by Chgo standards
- Cons: Not a Ted's caliber.

Chicago-style hot dogs rule at this fast-food stand.
by Contributor
In Short
Sharing space with Church's Fried Chicken, this hot dog stand attracts cravers of all kinds. The weiners (get a double dog, if you dare) are char-grilled or steamed. Ask for a "Chicago dog" and it will arrive with mustard, relish, onions, tomatoes, a pickle, hot peppers and celery salt. Burgers, chicken and chili come flying over the high-top counter as well.
- Pros: Nice dogs
- Cons: Run-down furnishings
Please

Come on, this place is a rip off. Again name recognition over food quality. I work downtown so, having a taste for a wiener I went to GC on the recommendation of a co worker. I got two Hot Dog's with fries and a large soda and paid $7.50. I figured that had to be wrong, it wasn't.
Please visit any of the hundreds of the smaller non-chain hot dog stands in Chicago. They are much better and cheaper.
Yum Yum!!

I love hot dogs, and the ones at Gold Coast Dogs have got to be the Best I've ever Had... It's almost like when I was 10 and I went to see the cubs with my dad. A must have for any dog lover.
Never had a problem

I have eaten here quite a bit and always loved the charred hot dogs. Not many places in the city that I know of offer it. The fries are soggy but somehow, they pull it off.
I wouldn't be surprised about poor service. You should never eat a cold hot dog.
- Pros: char dogs
- Cons: none
