To Whom It May Concern:
I am writing because I am concerned with service I had today at the Macy’s Bridal Salon on State Street. I will be honest and say that I did read online reviews before my appointment. I was worried about some of the experiences that we reported but, I assumed everyone gets a little critical and to go with an open mind. I arrived on time and ready, bra, picture, a list and was excited to be in the shop. I filled out the form and clearly wrote my budget at $2100.00. I was informed your dresses started at $1200.00 and went up so I assumed there would be adequate selection for my price range. The consultant greeted me and was given my information sheet.
She asked if I like any of the dresses on the floor and I pointed out the ones I liked. I was under the strong assumption that if it was out of my range, I would be informed. She pulled the dresses and set me up in the dressing room. I tried on the Lazaro i liked and instantly thought it fit my style. In my mind I wondered if it was in my price range and quickly asked the consultant. She replied, “We will have to see.” I am guessing my frustration is clear… I had just been put into a gown way out of my comfort zone. Most of the gowns she brought me throughout the appointment we well over $2100.00 (I would check the tags each time she left the room) and really bothered me that the information sheet was completely disregarded.
Why does this happen? It is not really fair to the bride. Am I really supposed to go to my parents and ask them to blow the budget for a gown? It wasted everyone’s time; from my friends, to the consultant, and especially mine. I spent the time driving from the suburbs, paid parking and got my hopes up for nothing. I will be honest, I will never have any of the dresses put on me today, and that’s a disappointment and a disservice to me. I still believe that there were plenty of dresses there in my budget, but most one reason or another, was never shown them.
Please review my paperwork, I have made an appointment later this year for a trunk show but for the most part, do not see the point in keeping it. What bothers me is the most is that $2100.00 is a lot of money to me, but apparently not to Macy's. I am sure you will get another sale, bigger and better, but hopefully this situation will get some attention and be addressed.
- Pros: dresses are nice, but you will need a lot of $$$$$
Missing Fields
by J99 at Citysearch
I loved Marshall Fields and everything about it...Macy's is an ok substitute, better than the building being empty and nicer than a Carsons', but lacking the charm and class of Fields' imo
- Pros: Helpful Staff
- Cons: Feels Generic
Take A Pass on the Furniture Department
by Tellit at Citysearch
Purchased a bed frame in the Martha Stewart line-beautiful at first glance but salesman lied when I asked how difficult it would be to make the bed due to curved corners. No problem he said-well it is a problem-the mattress is heavy and has to be lifted every time I change the sheets.
- Pros: Downtown
- Cons: Expensive and they lie to sell
BRIDAL SALON AT MACY'S = NIGHTMARE
by PoorlyTreatedCustomer at Citysearch
I bought my dress from Macy's in Septembr of last year and I was quoted a fix amount of $250 for my alterations. I am getting married in October and I went for my first fitting last week and after standing for 1 hour and 30 minutes during my EXTENDED lunch break getting fitted, I was quoted over $700.
I have talked with the manager of the alterations department on the phone and she yelled at me and interrupted me while I was explaining why I as so upset. I then talked to another manager who told me that a Consultant should not have to follow up with a Bride if they haven't heard back from us. He then laughed at me, and told me that I hear only what I want to hear and that Macy's will be more than happy to LOSE me as a customer.
DO NOT RUIN WHAT IS SUPPOSED TO BE THE BEST EXPERIENCE OF YOUR LIFE by purchasing your bridal gown from Macy's Salon.
Did I mention that the consultant who quoted me the #250 flat fee is no longer working there?
Good Luck.
- Pros: NOTHING
- Cons: EVERYTHING

great place to choose and especially register for the wedding. We had fun time on Saturday afternoon at Macy's before heading to the bridal party.
- Pros: Example: best croissants in town
- Cons: What are the drawbacks?

Wonderful Shopping experience at State Street Macy's
by Linda5421 at Citysearch
Just went to Chicago this weekend and the first stop in the city was Macy's at the former Marshall Fields store. We loved it. Mostly we were just looking, but every salesperson we encountered, shopping or just looking was delightfully friendly, gave us lots of information even if we did not buy. We were truly impressed. It was a wonderful new experience to find salespeople willing to help and give us information. We made a few purchases and came away with a very positive feeling for Macy's; unlike what we sometimes encounter in the home town store. I am certainly looking forward to other trips and the opportunity to visit this store. I was also here in December of last year and got much the same feeling but since we were actually shopping more this time, the experience was just wonderful. I even told a saleswoman in colognes how nice everyone was to us and hope it gets back to management what a wonderful experience 2 ladies from Indiana and Ohio had at their store.
- Pros: Friendly service, huge selection in every department.
- Cons: None at this visit
Macys Bridal is Fantastic !
by Hubble1 at Citysearch
I ,my sister and many of my friends have purchased our bridalgowns and Accessories and Bridesmaids dresses all from Macy's State Street over the past few years. We all have horror stories but not about this lovely salon but from the outrageous girls that we've run into there. Rude ,aggressive, thoughtless and down right nasty woman who treat the hard working staff like slaves and try to complain there way into a discount. It has been truly a bizare experience to witness this beautiful occasion marred by ruthless brides and there mothers and eek Bridesmaids. I have seen girls swearing at the poor seamstresses and brow beating the staff. They should be very ashamed of there behaviour. My Saleswoman was lovely knowledgeable and very carring.I highly recomend Macys for your Bridal needs.Thank you!
- Pros: Great knowlegable staff
- Cons: Elevators are not always fast
Avoid Macy's Bridal at all costs
by ChicagoMJ at Citysearch
I'm reviewing Macy's Bridal Salon. If I could give a negative star rating, I would. DO NOT BUY YOUR WEDDING DRESS HERE! I purchased my dress at the downtown Chicago Macy?s. When my dress came in, I briefly tried it on to make sure it fit okay. It seemed big at the time, but Ronia, the Macy?s bridal dress consultant assured me that the alterations would make it fit ?perfectly?.
The 1st fitting was 3 months ago. I worked with Marie, the bridal seamstress, to tighten the halter, hem the length, tighten in the back and add the bustle. I had my 2nd fitting 1.5 months later. The length was perfect, the bustle so-so, but the seams in the bust were rippled & made me look like my chest was showing through. Also, the dress around my hips & rear was too big, & looks like the wrong size, giving me no shape. I expressed my concern to Ronia and Marie, and my feelings were completely dismissed - I was told "that's just the way the dress is".
I had 5 fittings altogether and had a horrible time with each on (City Search doesn?t allow enough characters to detail the whole miserable experience). The alterations manager did finally fix the bust somewhat, but the dress is now more ill-fitting, because the changes in the bust caused the halter to be shortened - so the dress doesn't fall on my hips anymore, but higher up, causing loose material b/w my waist & hips that doesn?t lay flat on my body. Plus the rear of the dress still looks way too big.
I am extremely unhappy with the quality of Macy?s work and customer service. I have a dress I paid over $6000 for plus $600 in alterations, but this ?final? result fit completely differently than the store sample with the clips and pins. Unfortunately, it?s so late (wedding is 3 weeks away) that I don?t have time to find another dress for my wedding. I have also emailed the Macy's corporate office with a plea for help and have received zero response. AVOID!
- Pros: Nothing - it's a shell of what Marshall Fields used to be
- Cons: Customer Service, Quality of Service
MACY'S EMPLOYEES ARE RUDE!!!
by IHATEMACYS at Citysearch
I work for Macy's and can honestly agree and say that Macy's employees are not only rude to customers, but to co-workers. It's like the culture there. People don't speak to you, most of them are uneducated, and ignorant. They have no concept of respect and just common decency. Even management, and you would expect a lot more from them, but you get worst treatment. It's really depressing, and I can't wait to quit that job.
- Cons: BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE
