Bland over-priced food
by Howard1 at Citysearch
There are so many better places to go for pizza rather than here. The pizza here is more like cheese breas - there are almost no toppings. The pasta was just ok. And the prices are what you'd expect from a nice restaurant, not this place. This place is an overpriced cafeteria.
- Pros: location in little italy
- Cons: bad food, bad atmosphere
Chicken herb ravioli------ummmmmm....yummy!
by bylisajobarr at Citysearch
These homemade pasta delicacies will melt in your mouth. The sauce is fresh tomato-y and suculent.
Atmosphere will definitely put you in the mood for Italiano--the high ceilings, pillars, artwork. very tasteful and spacious.
Don't forget the cannolis---they taste just like the ones I've had in NY.

Every time I visit Chicago I go here to get my favorite dessert! No need to say more.

In Short
Frescos adorn the walls at this Taylor Street spot, where police officers, Medical District employees and students gather for fresh Italian food served cafeteria style. Diners order from the long glass cases, then wait for delivery at tables in one of restaurant's two large rooms. Freshly baked pizzas and pizza strudels are popular, as are fresh salads with toppings such as dried cherries, blue cheese and toasted nuts.
I Eat Pompei everyday
by cubanitalian at Citysearch
I love the food. I've eaten everything on the menu twice! I know personally that the food is fresh and the cheesecake with raspberry sauce is to die for. Gnocchi baked with tomatocream sauce is my favorite. Right on Ralph and family!!!!!
- Pros: fresh baked goods, owners greet you, great service
Fresh Food?
by vasu at Citysearch
I have been eating in Pompei for past 2 years... say once a week. I dont know whether they are running out of right kind of bread that comes with salad or pasta. They keep on changing the type of bread. I doubt these breads are good enought. I wouldnt mind this after all this is a cheap eat. But Last time I had Chicken ceaser salad and i definitely say the chicken is older than a day or two. It was so dry that I had to masticate for a while before i could swollow it. Definitely a Disappointment. I dont think i will go there with so many options in Taylor Street.
- Pros: Inexpensive, Fast service

the food use to be better before they moved to their new location. the food's not terrible or anything....it's still decent, just use to be better a few years ago. i tried their cheesecake for the first time about a month ago....it was also the last time i will taste that cheesecake. the texture was not smooth and was dry....sucked the moisture out of my mouth.
- Pros: parking lot, inexpensive
- Cons: food not as good past
An Italian Favorite

The food is always fresh tasting. Especially the salads. Great choices and excellent sauces. I like the casual atmosphere. You can go there with friends and children too.
Pompei's surprise
by expressogirl at Citysearch
I stumbled upon Pompei as I was trying to find my car after visiting a friend at UIC. As soon as I set foot in the door, I was surprised by the charming architecture not typically found in inexpensive restaurants. I stood at the menu display for about 5 minutes before I could finally make up my mind - everything looked delicious! And I was more than pleased with my finally choice - a turkey veggie sandwich, unlike any I had ever tasted. I definately recommend Pompei if you happen to be in the area!
- Pros: huge portions, inexpensive
simply tasty
