A monument to the legendary Chicago woman who tried to create a better society.

by Contributor at Citysearch

This restored mansion contains a wonderful collection of documents, furniture and photographs of residents and supporters of Hull-House, such as attorney Clarence Darrow, suffragette Susan B. Anthony, architect Frank Lloyd Wright and African-American journalist Ida B. Wells. There's also a 20-minute video entitled "The Women of Hull-House" that explains the role of Hull-House in Chicago history. The woman who founded Hull-House in 1889, Jane Addams, advocated social welfare reform by providing kindergarten and day-care facilities for children of working mothers. In addition to creating an employment bureau for immigrants, Hull-House was also involved in the movement to create the Immigrants Protective League, the Juvenile Protective Association and the first juvenile court in the country.
