Known for their Hot Dogs, but their Chop Salad is awesome!
by dsherm at Citysearch
Going to Portillo's is an experience. There is just so much to choose from and everything is great. It's perfect for a quick bite with a lot of people, because everyone will find something they like.
I've been to the one downtown a few times and their drive thru is unbelievably efficient. Very impressive. I've also been to one in the suburbs after golf, which also offers a great experience.
Lastly, a friend of mine has had a few parties with Portillo's catering. Very well done!
- Pros: Tons of choices
- Cons: Very busy
2nd best hotdog in chicago
by PacinoFan at Citysearch
I know hotdogs! I was at the Conney Island hotdog eating contest every year as a child.
This is not the best hot dog in Chicago - The best is Maxwell Street. This is a close second though, and its really good because of consistency. I love this place sooooo much!
-1 for not being maxwell street
- Pros: its delicious
- Cons: maxwell is better
Sensational Salads
by abcgreen572 at Citysearch
This was the first time that we had eaten at this restaurant, and it was a mixed bag of compliments. I had one of their signature salads and absolutely loved it. Everything was fresh, prepared while I watched and extremely tasty. It was on the daily special, so the meal itself was very inexpensive as well. The other members of the party, however, did not enjoy their meals as much. One ordered a steak sandwich with hot peppers and was treated to something with carrots and other unidenfied vegetables on it. The other person in the group ordered a polish sausage, which was overcooked, but otherwise had no faults. The service was fast and friendly and the atmosphere was family friendly. I would recommend :)
- Pros: Service, Atmosphere
- Cons: not enough description to the menu add-ons (very deceiving)
Great Location!
by GoldenAsh at Citysearch
I love Portillo's and this one is the absolute best in the city. The food is always cooked to perfection from the burgers to the crispy chicken. And I'm the hugest fry fan so I am really pleased on their fries. This location is a good one to go to when you are a part of a group or large party, or in the Downtown area having a night on the town or a nice lunch. It is reasonable in price, and should feed your taste buds just right.
- Pros: 2 drive-thrus (wait may be long, but they are efficient)
- Cons: Street Parking
Better Than Wiener's Circle
by huskyduck at Citysearch
Portilos has grown enormously over the years to what is now essentially a local fast food haven. However, the quality of their hot dogs has not been affected in the least by this growth which is amazing. Each standard dog is cooked to perfection, a slight pop when you bite it, tucked inside a soft doughy bun, lathered with mustard, sport pepper, onions, tomato slices and pickle spear. All the condiments are fresh and are the secret to Portillo's success. There are other items on the menu but most everybody comes to satisfy their hot dog fix. Long live Portillos!
- Pros: Best hot dogs in Chicagoland
Portillo's They are everywhere.
by patrickhayes at Citysearch
I will have to say Portillo's has good food all the way around. the hot dogs are great traditional Chicago dogs and you are not getting ripped off when you buy them. The fries, burgers, and ribs are all very good. The beef has great taste but they are very cheap on the amount of beef you get. I get a combo so I know I will at least get some meat.
- Pros: fast good food
- Cons: some things are a little pricey for what you get. Like the beef.
Wow!

I've only had this once when I was helping my brother move to Chicago (I'm from Southern California). In that single visit, I was blown away. Such a wide variety of better-than-fast-foods. The only thing comparable where I come from is a place called Fudruckers. Both have quite strange names.
Portillo's Rocks

These people who say the portions are small must eat like GIANTS> One can hardly finish the regualr size beef let alone the BIG beef. The fries are etheral: crisp on the outside and airy and light on the inside. I have only had a negative experience and they were quick to rectify it then and there. Cheeseburgers are good too. Hot dogs are the same as everywhere else (Vienna beef, you can't go wrong) Even my Manhattan friends love the Chi-dogs. Expensive? Those who feel Portillo's is expensive must live in the sticks.
- Pros: Cooked to order, fresh and juicy
- Cons: NOT figure friendly but then no one said it was
great on the run
by centurian at Citysearch
Like all portillo's the drive thru is a model of efficiency. The dogs are as good as anywhere in the area. The burgers are good as is the rest of the menu. The chocolate cake is way above average. Having to stand in line (maybe two lines) makes it tough on a large family to order, but the tables are set up nicely for large groups once you get your order.
- Pros: fast drive thru, large groups
- Cons: Lines

average food with a big price tag. you would think a chain resturant would have a better value.
