Funny, rude wait staff, it is part of the ambience

The food is so, so, particularly on a busy night. The ambience is fun and lively. Waiters are wise cracking and intentionally rude, but that is part of the fun.

It can be quite crowded and they don't take reservations, so get there early.

I got burned on my credit card

These guys charge you 20% extra on your credit card without any authorization. What a bunch of snakes. Crumby food, terrible service, over priced and they are trying to cheat people. Thieves.

Check you credit card bill

I just left the Chicago Ed Debevics... which was a bad experience. When I got home I was looking through my online credit card statement. I noticed that the bill was higher than I had authorized. I didn't leave a tip because you should only leave tips for good service and good food.

The credit card bill was for higher than my charge so I called the restaurant and they told me "the credit card company automatically adds 20% to the bills but that they would correct it".

What a bunch of B.S. Imagine all the people that don't check their credit cards $$$$$ 20% on each credit card transaction.

Ed Debevics doesn't only give you poor service, lousy food, expensive prices... they are also robbing you.

Rude service. Bad food. Over priced. Dirty conditions. Why are people still going?

It's ? that keeps people coming. I gotta think that the one time people eat here, they would rather go someplace else. It hurts to spend money like this.

There's more grease in the employees hair than in the fryer. About the employees: Odd and petty nasty in a ha ha I finally can be mean way. Doesn't look like any of them take showers before coming to work. I gotta believe they don't wash their hands because the bathrooms didn't have paper towels.

It's a pretty scummy operation.

Don't Go. Expensive, poor poor quality and horrible service. The theme is dead!

Expensive and poooooor quality. It's not mocking fun anymore, its just rude and dirty. The bathrooms were filthy and the staff were out of control. Neve again. You've been warned.

Each time the waiter came to our table we prayed he wouldn't talk too much and leave quickly.

• Cons: Low quality. Dirty. Poor service. Expensive. We were sad when we left that we spent the money there. The business has got to be dying.

Ed Debevics was the worst experience I've ever had at a restaurant. The food was terrible and the service was worse. The old mock hurry up and eat thing has degenerated into dirty and rude. The employees are trying to run it into the ground under the whole "rude" concept.

3 adults and a child was $48. Expensive and terrible food. Don't tip, don't go and don't be sad if you have a bad experience. You were warned.

Ed Debevics is riding on their name momentum but its pretty much done. Chicago has great restaurants... Ed Debevics is no longer one of them.

• Cons: Horrible everything. You need a low self-esteem and low standards to like it.

Fun for kids but that's about it.

I took my daughter and boyfriend here here at their request. Both were first timers and I was not able to steer them away. The waitress was predictably sassy, but our appetizer came way AFTER the main course. I had the meatloaf, it had the beginnings of a skin on the gravy...

If I ever go back, and that is a huge question, I'll stick with a burger. I think the kids learned their lesson.

Fun times with the Kids

Hands down--if you have little ones you've got to bring them to Ed's. It's such a fun place to have a good time with the whole family. I've only been there 3 times and everytime has been rather entertaining. My little brothers couldn't stop talking about the place. If you can't take a joke, then this place isn't for you...otherwise sit back and enjoy the wait staff (with such manners!) and get back at them at your own risk. Where else can you get good food, great music, and wait about five minutes for a refill because your server is too busy shaking his groove thing on the bar? Only at Ed Debevic's!!

HOSPITAL FOOD

This place is AWFUL! The food is good if you like what they serve in the school cafeteria or COUNTY jail. C'mon people I have had better onion rings at Burger King! The meals are large,the stuff they serve is 'CHEAP'. How can a place with no kids menu be "KID FRIENDLY"? $5.50 for a hot dog is a little steep. The VERY POOR service is written off as "ambiance",amazing. We have been here more times than I care to admit (we travel with team sports and the 'new' people insist on going here) and I cannot believe how bad it is! Its the same story after every visit-"I can't believe I just spent $50.00 for that slop!" Save your money! Step inside,look around then RUN, RUN FAST and FAR AWAY.

Great Food & Location

The food is fantastic, my only gripe is there's a certain waitress there who insisted on pushing her Political Beliefs on the tables she had, especially ours. Finally we got irratated & called the manager. Otherwise it's a fun place when they stict to actually having fun there, the bantering can get a little excessive too.

• Cons: The bantering/screaming from the servers can get aggravating very quickly
