My class and I are visiting chicago on a school trip, and we liked the experience of eating here very much. The waitor named "Swan", a.k.a Tractor, is the coolest. We all miss you already!!! And next time I visit I will definately come here again. Great food, service, and humor!!
where is your sence of humor?
by missmaggie54 at Citysearch
ok in order to go to a place like this you must have a sence of humor and be happy, cuz if not then you will hate it. lame ppl should not go here cuz this is a place to have fun and laugh. its obnoxious and fun to yell at your waiter cuz he is yellin at you. thats the main point. the food is pretty good....the dessert is very very good. i got a salad cuz i wasnt too hungry and it was good, it was funny to hear my waiter complain about everyone and then he turned to me and was all like thanks for being all easy with ur order and i was just like UMMM can i have more ranch? and he rolled his eyes and he was like NVM i take that back lol.....our waiter made us laugh the whole time....and that random dancing is SOOOOO funny...wow this place is cool its entertaining and the food isnt bad, and its not expensive at all....at least i dont think so, if ur paying about 10-15 dollars for one person at a sit down reasturant with entertainment i think its a steal. and its in downtown... come on now and have some fun with your life and enjoy this place....it is a must....especially for kids, teens, young adults....older ppl just dont get it i guess.........
Great experience all around!!

We had sassy service, which is even better when you are quick witted enough to comment back to the waitstaff. Anyone who doesn't appreciate the idea behind this resaurant is probably old enough to be put in a nursing home, because it is for the hip, young and energetic. I recently turned 22, and went with my 45 year old mother and we had a blast!! On top of the fun experience with the service, the food was great, and we were nothing short of entertained. I definitely recommend going whlie in Chicago!

Great service & good food
by aimmer01 at Citysearch
I went with my kids (ages 12 & 5), nephew (12) and mom. My mom had told me about the place ahead of time. Even though we had to wait a little while for a table, it was worth it! Our waiter was dishing out his routine through the entire meal. We dished back, which only made him try harder. All of us were laughing so hard. The food was really good and the portion sizes were large. I will definitely make it a point to go back to Chicago just to visit Ed's. I just wish there was an Ed's closer to Flushing, MI where I live.
- Pros: Good food, great service
- Cons: No reservations, can wait awhile for table
The Best Restaurant in the Whole Wide World
by emeraldflashlight at Citysearch
Did I say the best restaurant? I should have said the best establishment of any type at all, anywhere. The Sears Tower? Boring. Disney World? Lame. The Sistine Chapel? Pathetic. They are all nothing compared to the sheer magnificence that is Ed's. If you have never been to this incredible diner, I pity you, my friend. Drop whatever you are doing and go there, and feel the empty hole in your life become instantly filled with the glory and wonder that is the good food and fresh service of Ed Debevics! You will not regret it when you discover that your once empty soul is now complete! Phew, Im spentOh, and to those who dont like what sometimes termed the rude service, youre just boring old grumps with no sense of humor who obviously deserved everything you got from the living gods who comprise the Eds wait staff.
- Pros: splendor, glory, radiance
- Cons: none
Sense of Humor Needed
by harvestpastor at Citysearch
I have been to Chicago 5 years in a row. Ed's is the only place I have been to all 5 years. Bring a sense of humor. And a few quick come backs.
Food is great if you want American diner food. Route 66 burger is great. Counter dance is great too.
Some waiters put it on a little to thick with the attitude. They could read their customers a little better when it comes to dishing it out. Some that I have noticed get worn out after a few minutes of it.
I will go to Ed's every time I'm in Chicago. My wife went in April and I told her NOT to go. She would not have tollerated much of what I have seen there.
- Pros: Food, Entertainment
- Cons: better judgement

Still good, but not the same
by jsterben at Citysearch
This was my third visit to an Eds, having been to this one previously as well as the defunct Milwaukee location. The food, especially items from the ice cream fountain, is always good (and was good this time, too), but the sassy service was what made Eds unique. Sassy is the key here, and is not equivalent to poorthe service itself has never been short of outstanding, but its always been accompanied with a good helping of attitude. That attitude was indeed toned-down in my most recent visit (something I didnt know until afterwards, reading this sites editorial review), and the overall experience, while good, was not as enjoyable as the others were. Without the attitude, Eds is just another good-for-groups-and-kids nostalgia-themed restaurant. BORING. Ask for the sass if you want it, like I do. Then, as Ed says, EAT AND GET OUT!
- Pros: ice cream fountain, service
- Cons: long waits
