Cheap & Mean

My fiancee and I dined here the other night, and neither of us could finish our dinners, so we asked to have them both boxed up to take home. Fifteen minutes later, the restaurant was closing and the waiter still hadn't brought our food back. When we asked the hostess for help, she sheepishly replied that the busboy had given our food to someone else, and since the kitchen had just closed there was nothing she could do. But it gets worse... She promised that the restaurant would make it up to us the next time we came in, but when we called the manager tonight to get our comped meals, he said he would comp one meal, but ONLY one. I told him that two dinners had been taken from us, but he insisted that the hostess said it was just one dinner, and in his words, "I'm not going to give away anything that I can't verify." The guy was so cheap and so mean that I said we wouldn't come back even for the one free meal, and he said, "Good! I'm glad to hear it!" I don't know what bothers me more: the manager's rudeness and cheapness, or the fact that both the waiter and the hostess ducked responsibility and blamed the lost food on the busboy... Stay away from this place.
- Pros: NO pros
- Cons: They lost our food, lied about it, then wouldn't replace it.

I have been to Topo Gigio two times and both times I had such a great experience. It is good for date night but also for big groups because I have done both. The Seafood pasta is sooo good and the calamari is a great appetizer. I highly reccomend!
- Pros: Food, Wine, Service

I go here with my aunts every time they visit Chicago. The food is really good and they play live music making the whole night really fun. It's in a really nice part of Old Town where it's not too congested.

This Italian restaurant is authentic, fun and serves delicious food. Tucked away in Old Town, Topo Gigio is a surprise of a restaurant. My family and I have been going here for years and cannot get over how delicious the Salmon pasta is. The prices on the food are reasonable, and the drinks vary depending on what you are ordering. I would recommend Topo to anyone who is looking to try a new Italian restaurant. The food and service pack a punch!

This is the regular meeting place for my girlfriends and I. This is my favorite period. The restaurant is ver cute and even the outside garden area looks great in the winter when it's covered. Not only is the food great, but it has one of the few outside bar areas where single girls can hang out without getting harrassed. In fact, two weeks ago the host asked a patron to leave after he wouldn't leave us alone. I personally love Topo Gigio for it's food and atmosphere.
- Pros: Great Food & Atmoshphere - Staff is Playful
- Cons: Can be loud inside on a busy night
Top Three Italian Restaurants in the City - Fun & Boisterous

I go to Topo Gigio on a regular basis and yes, even though the staff recognizes me, I sometimes might have to wait for a table, especially on a Friday or Saturday night since it gets so crazy busy. However, I am happy to get a drink at the bar, after all, it's Friday or Saturday night, what's the rush? This is definitely one of my top three restaurants in the City. The food is consistently great and I always have a good time.
- Pros: Some of the most authentic and consistently good Italian food in Chicago
- Cons: Gets very busy on the weekends

A group of friends went to Topo Gigio, we loved it. The
service was great, from the host to our waiter. They made
us feel so welcome. The food was fantastic. A few of us
are italian, and we are not always pleased with Italian
restaurants, but we really enjoyed the food. We each had
something different and shared with each other. Everthing
was wonderful.
Worst Customer Service

I am not exactly sure why this restaurant takes reservations!! After waiting for over an hour, we were so disappointed that we went elsewhere for dinner. Not only they were not apologetic, the owner/manager kept telling us that it is a good thing that we had a reservation, otherwise we would have to wait even longer!! At one point after complaining that we have been waiting for a long time, the same person tells me "clearly you don't go out often"!! Terrible customer service - Extremely disappointing.
- Pros: None
- Cons: Everything else!!
