Nothing special ....

by duvde1 at Citysearch

Based on reviews we decided to go and try the food. It was OK if you were really hungry otherwise I would eat that.

It was only a couple of tables taken, but still it took them a while to bring shwarma and it was slightly warm, so I had really serious doubts about the freshness. The taste was very very mideocre. 5$ meal from pita inn is soo much better.

  • Pros: Quite, looks like a normal place to eat
  • Cons: The food

My Old Town Restaurant

by violetjvg at Citysearch

If I'm in Old Town, it's either for a show at Second City or a movie at Piper's Alley, and this is my place for dinner. It's a cozy, casual little place that is never crowded but always great. The atmosphere is mixed: they have some gorgeous tapestries and paintings, but their dinnerware is anything but, with sandwiches served in baskets and their plates have bizarre black-and-yellow hazard designs. But I'm not eating the plates (!), so that hardly matters considering their excellent grape leaves, creamy hummus, fresh falafel sandwiches, and tasty vegetarian platters. They also make a nice piece of baklava.

  • Pros: excellent food, lovely artwork

Charming

I stopped here yesterday for lunch with a friend who never had Middle Eastern cuisine before. The restaurant is small but intimate. The food was very good - I recommend the combination platter. We were uncertain about dessert, but a man who appeared to be the owner or manager gave us recommendations. Overall, a very good experience.

  • Pros: Food, Value, Friendly
  • Cons: No parking

Old Town B.Y.O.B. mainstay for casual Middle Eastern fare.

by Contributor at Citysearch

In Short
Though a bit of an oddball along this trendy strip, Old Jerusalem is a welcome oasis for vegetarians and those looking for a less expensive dining option. The Middle Eastern menu sticks to the tried-and-true without a lot of fuss: hummus, falafel, shawarma (meat cooked with lemon, garlic and mustard), baklava and other specialties.

A little gem.

by al_001 at Citysearch

This is a great Middle Eastern cafe tucked amoung the high priced restaurants of Wells St in Old Town. Definetly recommended. The food was very good and the service was good. We ate dinner with appetizer for $25. Its BYOB, so we also shared a nice bottle of wine.

  • Pros: All around great.
  • Cons: No parking.
