WOW

by candypooles at Citysearch

The most amazing dining experience that I have ever had and it was just that--an experience. I was talking about it for days after I went. I don't think my tounge has ever tasted such a wide variety of complimentary flavors. simply amazing.

Very Disappointed!

by kaki321 at Citysearch

With over 1,000 wines on the wine list, only one Chardonnay was offerred by the glass at $18 a glass. Give me a break. The portion sizes were horribly small, and nothing "tasty" worthy of note. The maine lobster portion size was a joke for the price fixe price, and you couldn't even taste the coconut emulsion. The shrimp appetizer was common and bland. I enjoy fine dining, and will gladly pay $100 for an entree only if it is worth it. I will not be returning nor recommending Tru. They have no right to charge what they do for what they serve.

  • Pros: service, decor
  • Cons: value, wine by glass, taste of food

AN ARM AND TWO LEGS

by Hanthology at Citysearch

Feel like a prince or princess for a day, but sell the family jewels. FOUR HOURS for dinner! They even printed our names on the menu when we told them it was our anniversary. Very cool.

You know when comedians spoof "fancy, expensive restaurants" with pea-sized portions? Well, this is that restaurant.

  • Pros: SERVICE, atmosphere, creative food
  • Cons: PRICE

Perfect Service

by scb324 at Citysearch

I love beer and expressed disappointment with their offerings which were limited to 2. The staff went out the back door and down the street to the deli to fetch me a Heineken!

  • Pros: great service, delicious food
  • Cons: expensive

The best in every way!

by kp at Citysearch

Tru is the definition of a special occasion restaurant. The food is amazing but their service is the most perfectly orchestrated and customer focused balet of movement I have ever experienced. They always anticipated every possible need without ever being intrusive. They accomodated every minor or unusual request with pleasure. The tasting menu was a wonderful collection of perfect flavors from the four piece amuse bouche and caviar staircase at the beginning to the incredibly playful desert cart that finished the meal. The decor was simple with beautiful artwork that complimented the food and service. The price tag was significant but I was so thrilled at how the entire experience had surpassed my expectations that I happily signed the check.

  • Pros: Perfect service, Wonderful food, Beautiful decor
  • Cons: Expensive

Tru made our anniversary perfect

by bunsennbeake at Citysearch

My husband and I went to Tru for our anniversary and experienced the highest level of bliss that food could ever possibly bring. We each had the 10-course chef's selection, which means there were 20 flawless dishes between us (and multitudes of desserts)! Every single detail was executed perfectly, from our service team's careful timing, unintrusive nature and explanations to the beautifully prepared food that is indescribable... every single course had its perfect place and was thought out, ordered carefully, and balanced. At least 5 other couples were there for anniversaries, and we were all glowing with enthusiasm and felt like kings and queens. There is no comparison to this restaurant except perhaps heaven.

  • Pros: intense gorgeous food, amazing service, perfection achieved
  • Cons: none whatsoever!

Good food at bad prices

by bpoelman at Citysearch

Ate at Tru in the last week of June this year while on vacation in Chicago. While the food was good it was not great. Had the lamb as a main and enjoyed it. The quality of the meat was exceptional but the portion small by about 30%. Wine list was impressive but again far too over priced and lacking in Australian selections. Wait staff was efficient but mechanical and entirely aloof. My advice is to stay away from the sushi. It's mediocre at best and you should never expect to be served "real" sushi unless it is served at an exclusively Japanese restaurant prepared be a Japanese master. Too bad there seems to be little to none of these in Chicago.

  • Pros: Elegant, Location
  • Cons: Price, Stuffy

That much!!!! For What?!?

by drummerdan at Citysearch

I have dined at some of the best restaraunts in Chicago and I have never felt more overcharged than I had at Tru. It is beautiful. The service is superb. However, it is still a restaraunt and food comes first. I don't doubt that there was an extrodinary amount of time spent on each dish. However, there was nothing that either my wife or I ate that was anything more than hype. Even though Les Frances is much less trendy, they deliver on the promise of fantastic food. My tab with tip (Chefs Table Menu) was $513.00. That is for two people. For that kind of money for Dinner, I should at least be able to rave about one of the 20 courses my wife and I had eaten combined. Beware, this is the Emporers new clothes of dining!

Forget the rest...Tru is BEST!

by PAULBEST1 at Citysearch

Everything about Tru tells you that they are trying to do everything a little better than everyone else. For example, for the chef's tasting menu..each of us (3) got a different dish on EVERY course. That means that each of us tried 30 different (excellent) dishes. No other chef in the US has done that. Not in NY, San Fran, or, N.O. The staff was amazing, especially Seven (that's her name). Her team was awesome. We got a tour, and a menu with our picture on it! Nice little extra touch. Charlie Trotter should bring his whole staff here to see what great service is! Very expensive, worth every penny!

  • Pros: service, diverse tastes
