Bad Overall Experience
by Alex Rush at Citysearch
Our evening started out bad when we were sat in the corner by the windows which were leaking cold air all night. I had to ask twice before anyone did anything to raise the heat and it took about an hour for us to start feeling warmer. We also did not receive our initial drinks for about 25 minutes. Also, apparantly the drink I ordered was $51,00 each and I had 2 but was never initially told about the price. I started out with the Seared Foie Gras and it was the worst I ever had. It was rubbery on the outside and cold and runny on the inside. In fact I had to cut it with a knife and could not really eat it. Then I had the venison for my mane dish and my wife had the jidori chicken. Both were unimpressive and the chicken was extremely bland. We also had a hard time understanding our wait staff. I have eaten at many top restaurants throughout the country and this was by far at the bottom of my overall list. Very expensive for an overall poor experience. You can pick from a host of other great restaurants to experience a great meal!
- Pros: None
- Cons: Almost everything
expensive, disappointing food without flavor
by crazypoodle at Citysearch
The food a Tru was truly a let down. The food was interestingly presented but there was a distinct lack of flavor in most dishes, especially considering the $110 cost of the basic tasting menu without wine. Even worse, everyone was still not really full because of the exceptionally small portions, even for this type of dining. The best dishes were fresh sushi fish pieces and the cheese, which is source externally. The jacket required attitude reflects that the old school attitude towards food that may once have been great. The service was excellent though.
- Pros: cheese cart, service
- Cons: food without much flavor, tiny, tiny portions for a very high price, stuffy jacket only requirement
Embarrassment

Chef Tremont and his crew must have a good time with their joke on the guests. Although the food is presented in an artistic way, almost playful, one does not come to a restaurant for taking pictures of food, but to eat. The Kitchen Table selections by the Chef, were skimpy, not very tasty, with only one Caviar Stair for 4 people and Ginger Ale Floats as a dessert. We informed them of our dislike for Ginger Ale, but still got it. Our guests from Switzerland were very disappointed. We will never go back there. This is a joke played out at the expense of the gullible and the kitchen staff must have a great time laughing at them. Roquefort as the "King of Cheeses", you got to be kidding!
- Pros: Presentation of Food, Service
- Cons: , Price, Desserts
Disappointed by the Dessert Tasting
by BlairAP1 at Citysearch
UNROMANTIC. That's what I have to say about Tru. I expected a lot from Tru's dessert tasting, especially when I requested a nice secluded table in advance. What I got was seated at a table for 4 in the middle of the room, with no privacy to be close to my girlfriend and let her know that I loved her. On top of that, the dessert tasting was simply terrible. Nothing was prepared well, and we were close to simply walking out. Elsewhere. Elsewhere. Thtat's what I'd recommend for anyone.
- Pros: Our server was nice
- Cons: Everything else.
Very disappointed

My girlfriend and I were expecting a lot after reading some of the reviews. We understood that Tru was extremely expensive, but with expensive restaurants, we expect the service to be equally good. It was very subpar. Our server couldn't match wines to foods appropriately and the food was
- Pros: Ambiance is alright
- Cons: Service, Cuisine
Very Disappointed!

With over 1,000 wines on the wine list, only one Chardonnay was offerred by the glass at $18 a glass. Give me a break. The portion sizes were horribly small, and nothing "tasty" worthy of note. The maine lobster portion size was a joke for the price fixe price, and you couldn't even taste the coconut emulsion. The shrimp appetizer was common and bland. I enjoy fine dining, and will gladly pay $100 for an entree only if it is worth it. I will not be returning nor recommending Tru. They have no right to charge what they do for what they serve.
- Pros: service, decor
- Cons: value, wine by glass, taste of food
