Is it "Bamboo Blue," or "We're Too Good to Wait on You"?

by seriouseater2 at Citysearch

Just the facts: I am a serious, time-sensitive eater. On a slow Friday evening, my family and I arrived at "Bamboo Boo" at 7:50pm, were seated promptly and placed our order approximately 10 minutes later. However, 30 minutes had elapsed without any server coming by. At that point, I signaled a bus boy and asked if we could have our appetizers since I had noticed our waiter was doubling up as a bartender and doing a splendid job of adorning martinis with paper umbrellas. We only witnessed him laconically saunter by our table once during the 40 minutes we were there. Minutes later, my family and I walked directly out the door in full view of the overly conversant waiter, and he failed to notice any of us. I wish I had the opportunity to comment on the food as I was looking forward to it, however, the only thing I learned at "Bamboo Boo" is to use the ample parking as it is close proximity to Aurelio's.

  • Pros: Ample Parking
  • Cons: Disappointingly many

Somewhat overrated

by writeon1 at Citysearch

Bamboo Blue has been a success for years now, so obviously, its fans find something to rave about. Yet, the food is not authentically Asian and the service can be a little unknowledgable. It's nice that Homewood has something like this available but if you hail from a large city, with plenty of authentic Thai to choose from, you will likely be disappointed.

  • Pros: It's a cute space
  • Cons: Price, authenticity, service

Bambooblue, DEVINE

by nichio5 at Citysearch

When I walked into the door of the upscale and freindly Bambooblue, I felt nothing but wormth and sincerity as i was greeted at the door. The hostess took my husband and me to our cozy booth, and we took one look at the menu, and knew exactly what we wanted. EVERYTHING! Bambooblue nailed the exact concept they were trying to break through to the narrow minded suburbian folk. Their concept of a fun downtown-like restaurant was needed in the suburbs. With gas so high, it is nice that we dont have to drive all the way downtown to get the same satisfaction of going out to a nice place to eat. The food is to die for. Everythything from their Asian quesadillas to their teryaki salmon is mouthwatering. Their sushi is just as good. I believe they changed their rice from last year, and it makes the sushi ten times better then it already was. They didnt only have things for me. My Husband was delighted to find a Kobe Beef Burger flying past him as we walked in. They also had a filet that I personally have not tried but it looked delicious. Their bar is wonderful. The person making the drinks is just as nice as tasting the high class martini going down your throat.I would bring a group of my girlfreinds here ion a heartbeat. I would recomend anyone to this restauraunt.

Tries to be many things but falls short on all

by lyonsd2 at Citysearch

Bamboo Blue is a confused attempt at Asian fusion with a limited sense of customer service. Its menu tries to be too many things but falls short on all of them. Our experience there started off with a ?can I help you?? from the hostess; like we wandered into the stock room at Target. We ordered edamame as an appetizer; and although the portion size was huge they were all undercooked. My wife ordered the Pad Thai which was incredibly oily and had a haunting aftertaste of day old fish. I ordered Spicy Fun noodles (wide noodles with hot and green peppers and beef), which was also incredibly oily but it did not taste like fish; rather it tasted like spicy nothing. We barely ate our dishes and were honest with the waitress when she asked if we did not like the food. She did offer us a coupon for a free entree (valid Monday through Thursday ? limit $15), if we decided to come back. We threw the coupon away.

  • Pros: Nice patio
  • Cons: Food, service, etc.

They got better.

by paulfrancisj at Citysearch

I tried this place when it first opened and wasn't impressed. I decided to give them a try again about a year later and it was so much better. Okay, so maybe their pop tastes a little weird but the Asian Nacho's...I could eat two plates of them for my meal. For some reason when you drive by it doesn't look open, maybe they should change that.
