Lame Crowd and Rude Staff

by Mhunckler at Citysearch

I've been to a lot of bars and scenes in Chacago, but the Cubby Bear is at the top of my "Worst of Chicago" list. Maybe I expected too much from this venue that's located across the street from Wrigley, however, I think my opinion is fairly unbiased...

Most of the staff and management were rude, cocky and generally unhelpful (even when I tipped heavily and was extremely polite). The crowd is mostly made up of dbags and frat-tards, with hardly any distinct personalities in the bunch.

Save your money. You could have a much better time just about anywhere in Chi-town.

  • Pros: close to Wrigley Stadium
  • Cons: Poor Managment, Mediocre Music, and Disappointing Crowd

Amazing Party Staff

by Bargal at Citysearch

Thanks Cubby Bear!! I was hosting my boyfriends birthday party and I was pleasantly surprised at the Cubby Bear for numerous reasons...

1. I chose Cubby Bear for the location (across from Wrigley Field) but I got more than I expected. Becky, their Events Coordinator set us up in a great private room overlooking the marquee!

2. The food was way better than my guests were anticipating...I suggest the chicken satay and crab cakes off the party menus!

3. The private room was great, no lines at the bar, plus we were able to set up bags and have tourneys!

4. The staff was very attentive and made sure we were well taken care of...

Normally I would only go to CB before or after Cubs' games, but after this experience, I can't wait to throw my next party...definitely use this venue for your next event!

  • Pros: Great Party Menus/Rooms and staff
  • Cons: I can't throw enough parties!

Wheres my next Blue Bomb!

by tall_tickler at Citysearch

Wow!... what can I say... what a place... I have never been so retarted after leaving a cubby game yet to roll into the Cubby Bear... must try the blue bombs... they seem innocent but they are harmful! ....not as advertised! For the Soxs fans that want to come to a REAL party strip... hop back on the Red and go to 35th and whatever... were good on minorities! Tickler strikes yet again!

  • Pros: Great place for a wedding reception!
  • Cons: No ejector seat to my apartment!

Good place

by mandioca at Citysearch

The Cubby Bear is a lot of fun to go to and watch sports games. The place is very large, with more than one room and countless TVs with different games on. The food is excellent and so is the service. The only complaint I have is during times a Chicago team is playing a final game. The place was way too crowded, with people who wanted to chase the TV cameras and paid no attention to the game itself. But this happened only during the finals... every other day it is one of the best places to go watch a game, meet people and have good food.

  • Pros: Good food, Good service, General atmosphere
  • Cons: Sports final nights

Wow! This Dive Underperforms More than the Cubs!

by hey_market at Citysearch

Chicagoan know there are only two reasons why this famously dingy, underperforming, over-priced dive does any business: 1) its location across from Wrigley Field, and 2) the word "Cubby" in its name. Here's a typical experience: Out-of-town guests insisted on having brunch there to watch the Chicago Bears home opener, and not only couldn't these guys pick up the game, but when a group of irate Bears fans informed the staff and manager that the game wasn't coming on, they merely shrugged their shoulders and directed people to watch the "Browns" game instead and enjoy their breakfast, which (surprise) was horrible (dishwatery eggs was the "hightlight"). Our group had to leave to in order to see the game. In short, this place is bad. Unfailingly bad. Kinda like a certain team that plays across the street (but at least THOSE Cubs offer a great place to watch a game).

???????????

by knox22 at Citysearch

what are the sheep thinking? cubby bear is nothing more than an overpriced, understaffed, "cool spot" where the overcrowded atmosphere is only outdone by the less than adequate number of bar tenders and wait staff. if this bar was not across the street from wrigley it would die.

A foul ball away from Wrigley Field, this bar is a neighborhood staple to sports fans and music lovers.

In Short
Kitty-corner to Wrigley Field, this 30,000-square-foot space features six bars stocked with standard bottled and draft brews and more than 100 TVs broadcasting the best satellite has to offer; dart boards provide further diversion. The spot's also popular for regional pop acts--though the 800-capacity main room has also hosted biggies like Johnny Cash, Chuck Berry, the Flaming Lips and Run DMC. A food menu includes appetizers, burgers and sandwiches at reasonable rates.

Sports bar..?

by JimEd at Citysearch

I dont know know what your definition of Sports Bar is..but the only only Sports at this place is the ballyard across the street and the knucklehead patrons who do their version of a cattle car in this too big for any atmosphere "Iconic Bar".

  • Pros: Location
  • Cons: Location, Service, Crowds

Rude

by JoMomma at Citysearch

The Manager and Bouncer are very rude and cannot tell a real ID from a fake one. I was denied entrance with multiple forms of ID b/c they thought my driver's license was fake, so then I had to get a cab back home and get my passport to prove that I was 23 years old and there was no apology and I had to miss the first part of the NCAA tournament game that I was there to watch w/my alumni club. So, if you don't mind being laughed at at the door and possibly not being allowed in with real identification, I would recommend it.

Changing tune

by ntableriou at Citysearch

Last year I swore I would never go there again, but after the Braves game we went and it was a blast. Much improved if you haven't been there in awhile.
