Not your mother's deep dish pizza. We've been going to this Chicago icon for over 35 years. It was always a must when friends were in from out of town - show them the birthplace of Chicago deep dish pizza. Since the restaurants (Uno's & Due's) were sold, it has been a downhill spiral of increasingly inferior pizza. After taking a friend from Sweden there yesterday, I must say it is now also the grave of the former wonderful deep dish pie. The only thing that links it to its former wonder is the cardboard box for leftovers. (There were plenty!)

The pizza is dry, thinner than it used to be and considerably less cheese is used in its construction. Granted the former pie was a dieter's demise - but then you didn't eat it everyday.

We're going to have to find a new pizza place and when friend's ask about that great Chicago deep dish pizza, we'll have to answer "Sadly, it is no more."…

Bad Service - Food Just Okay.... Being a tourist, I couldn't go to Chicago and not have a deep dish pizza. My friend and I were sat immediately (it was a Monday night) and waited 25 minutes just to order our drink. We knew it was going to be a long wait. I ordered a salad that was supposed to be brought before the meal and the waitress forgot., but I couldn't ask again, because she never returned to the table after taking our order. She told us the deep dish takes 45 mins, which we were okay with, but she could have returned to see if we needed a refill or anything.

We finally got our food (not prepared the way we asked) and it was just okay - nothing to write home about. We proceeded to wait another 25 minutes to have someone clear our plates and another 15 mins for our check.

While I know that Pizzeria Due is the first Pizzeria Uno, I was disappointed to see that there was Uno stuff there. It made the experience seem like I was visiting just another chain. I was looking for the original. Next time I would go to a family owned place instead to have the experience.…

Alex is the best bartender and the pizza is yummy!!. We sat at the bar and grew to love the bartender Alex. He is so personable and gave us great service. He made us feel like we had been going there for years. Like it was our own home town pub. We also loved the pizza. Very good. Pizzeria Due will be our first stop the next time we are in Chicago.

Terrible service, food nothing special. We were passing by this restaurant with our kids and decided to try it. We did not have to wait long because we were early for lunch. The food was ok, good but nothing special. We did try the deep dish pizza that was supposed to something special but perhaps our taste buds have gotten better over the years.

The worst thing about this restaurant however was he service, it was terrible! Our table did not get any water (at all), it was difficult to get ahold of the waiter, the wait staff was rude and could not be troubled to get enough silverware for our table.

When my wife finally did manage to order some water (had to ask twice), they charged us $3 for a glass of tap water! Unbelievable! We have visited many restaurants but this is the first time something like this has happened. The restaurant is also not very child friendly, there is for example no children's menu and I generally got the impression they did not like having kids at the restaurant (and people usually comment us on how well our kids are behaved). Very disappointing experience. Would not go back there if you paid me.…

Good pizza but be prepared to wait. We stayed down the street at the James and were hoping for a quick bite on Saturday night before heading back out. We thought we were early arriving at 5:30, but there was already a wait for tables. You have to order your pizza when you put your name down for a table, so be prepared (the people in line ahead of us spent a lot of time arguing about what to order). The bar was packed so we were forced to wait outside in the cold. Luckily, we were seated quickly, but the wait for our pizza was still 45 minutes one we sat down. It was authentic, hot, and tasty once it arrived! We had the sausage pizza, which has thick sausage patties and not those miserable little nuggets of meat like you get elsewhere.…

Pan pizza? More like PANNED pizza.. My husband and I were in Chicago this past weekend and decided to go to Pizzeria Due, having seen some great recommendations of it. We ordered our pizza - their "Uno," with veggies, sausage, and pepperoni - when we put our names in for a table.

We were seated outside about twenty minutes later. The first thing we noticed was that the sugar packets were covered in tomato sauce. The plates we were given were plastic and grungy looking. They were clean, but badly stained. I use nicer napkins in my own home than the ones we were given.

Our salad was brought promptly. As we were eating our salad, we were treated to the rather vocal displeasure of the party next to us, whose spinoccoli pizza was brought to them COLD. They left shortly thereafter.

Our pizza was brought out, and it was wet. Not a little wet - it was seriously watery. It wasn't cold, but neither was it piping hot. The crust was flavorless and bland.

As we tried to eat our pizza, the waitstaff was haphazardly "cleaning" the table that had been vacated next to us. They cleared everything and gave it a quick wipedown with a none-too-clean looking rag. While wiping, the waitstaff knocked off the pizza pan that was holding the jars of oregano, pepper flakes, cheese, sugar packets, etc. The whole thing went face down onto the ground, and the jars fell out. He simply picked up the pan, put the jars back into the pan, and put it back on the table. This horrified me.

After that, the table remained empty for several minutes, during which time a sparrow hopped around on the table, drinking from the puddles left on the table.

I ate a single piece of pizza. My normally hungry husband ate only two. Needless to say, we skipped dessert.

We also noticed that the staff was constantly offering apologies for one thing or another - cold pizza, a delay for a table, etc., etc. Skip the apologies, do some work, and bring the caiber of your food and service up to par.…

Great pizza!. Definitely a Chicago staple, the deep dish here does not disappoint! Piping hot and gooey, this pizza is some of the best around. Perfect for going out with a group of friends, catching up with family, or even a date (there is a full bar too). The wait at Due is shorter than at Uno making it a better choice. It is still a good idea to get your name in early because wait times can be steep. Worth it though!…

Delicious deep dish but jolting, jarring PA system!. This is a wonderful place to find good pizza, and I take my friends there when they come to town. But I have a big beef about the noise level at the restaurant, and it's not due to the patrons, it's due to the big speakers that constantly blast waiting customers' names. "SMITH PARTY OF 5!!!!" It's continuous, and it's incredibly loud, and my conversation with my friend must have been interrupted 200 times during our meal. It was very frustrating and ruined the meal. People should be able to chat during a meal. There must be better ways to summon the customers who are waiting for tables...perhaps pagers. However they do it, it's really crucial for Due's to figure out how to create a quiet, welcoming atmosphere where people can be comfortable. Tasty food is only one element of successs.…
