Outstanding professional
by DHK
Angelica has made a wedding dress from scratch for me, which was beautiful. She has made wonderful curtians for my gold coast condo, duvet cover & pillows all of which my husband and I love. She is in the process of making three pairs of dress pants for me all of which are fully lined and beautiful. I could never find slacks like this in a store and to fit perfectly. She is creative and loves to make other items than wedding dresses. All of my girlfriends who've used her also sing her praises.
Hard working, kind, timely and trys to keep everyone on target with details and manage expectations.
I love her!
- Pros: She is a perfectionist
- Cons: parking
Wow, I was so impressed
by citygirl2go
I was with a friend when she had the most gorgeous wedding dress made here, the attention to detail was extremely impressive. French seams, and bead work, she bought charmeus and Alencon lace and they made a detailed but simple jacket for her. It was stunning. Anywhere else it would have been $5000 dollars retail. the entire cost with fabric (not from LaModista) was $1200!
So now it is my turn, but I am mother of the groom. I am having them make a coat and dress that I saw at an upscale department store which was about $3000. So they are making it for me, measuring me for it and I will report back on the final dress. I have been and expect to be very please with their incrdible services.
- Pros: Very good at what they do
- Cons: Very busy and limited to the customers they take on.
Nice Job...so far

There is certainly nothing fancy about this place and they are not the most conversational of people but they do good work and are friendly enough. I think there is a bit of a language /custom barrier and can see how some people think the staff comes across as unfriendly or rude but if you take the time to talk to them, they are pretty nice. I think the price is much more decent than the rest of the places I called in the city and am glad I found them. Otherwise I would have been stuck driving out to the burbs.
My final fitting is this Friday and will update this if the experience turns sour. The past two times I have been there have been fine.
- Pros: Good price for the city, fairly easy street parking, no nonsense
- Cons: Difficult to find at first- it blends in with the rest of the streetscape
Poor Service

We're better then you, that's the treatment. You need me more then I need you, that's the attitude. Who gave you the right to question my knowledge, that's the respect shown. The employees and owners have an attitude and they're very proud of it, thank god I'll never have to come here anymore. Now I'm telling you so you don't have to come here...... Ever.
no good and rude.

I did not have a good experience here at all. It began with the fitting where I made an appointment to come in and when I came, then told me that they didn't know I was coming. Despite this, the still fitted me, which I was thankful for. But maybe this is why the bridesmaid dress I had them alter did not fit correctly when I came to pick it up. I took the dress in about a month before the wedding and the told me to pick it up 3 days before the date I had to wear it. When I came back in, today, the dress did not fit. This is an out of town wedding. I don't have time to come back again. So I'm still not sure what I'm going to do...because I'm kind of screwed. Perhaps I made the wrong choice going here. I don't know. All I know is I have a strapless dress that I'm going to have to make straps for now myself so that it will stay up. On top of this, the woman who fitted me basically implied that I was chubby and that's why she fitted me the way she did. This is just horrifying and very unprofessional. It was cheap. The only good part of my experience.
- Pros: cheap
- Cons: rude, didn't do the job correctly with plenty of time to do so
Worked Magic on a Maternity Bridesmaid Gown
by chicago_in_the_know
I was 5 months into my pregnancy when I was to wear a bridesmaid gown that was strapless and had a low back (not really an option for someone who's pregnant). La Modista reworked the dress from a drop waist to an empire, affixed lovely straps and transformed the dress from a bridesmaid blunder into a sophisticated, well-tailored gown. They took the time to make it right (nearly 5 fittings) without compromising on the original cost to tailor - well under $100 for all that work.
- Pros: expert tailoring, customer service, patience
- Cons: no cons
