The Best Costume Store in Chicago
by goatking
Think costumes are for Halloween only? Think again. Chicago's finest costume store boasts a veritable cornucopia of costume selections year round. Located across the Lincoln Park campus of DePaul University and a block and a half from the Fullerton El stop, this costume store has never failed to come up in the clutch.
While it's true that Halloween is the busiest time of the year, if you're heading to a theme party, this place has a giant rows of wigs, walls of makeup, moustaches, hats, and other random stuff to steal the show and be outrageous and ostentatious. Any movie character you've ever wanted to dress up as, you can either buy a boxed/bagged costume or rent it out for a few days. Any costume you can find online, they have it and will let you try it on to make sure it fits. Any costume that they don't have, they will be kind enough to order it for you. As far as you can stretch your imagination, they will find some way to get it to you.
If you take a step into their basement, you'll find the rental section. The rentals at Chicago Costume are some of the best I've ever seen and are professional theater quality. Walls of armor and heavy metal weapons are available in the rental section and well as historical costumes with intricate accessories.
I have to give credit to the people that work there because they love what they do and are always willing to point you to the next costume even after you tried on four costumes and still didn't find what you wanted. I really can't remember the last time I bought a costume anywhere else because Chicago Costume has the widest selection, best location, and nicest people.
Great selection, Great pricing and Great Service

I needed to find a clown outfit for a birthday party. However, I was hoping to be a more casual clown, so I wanted to know my options. Courtland was very helpful showing me several options. He even showed me one shirt that can be used for either a clown, pirate or prisoner. I ended up getting a few things that worked out perfectly. I was very pleased considering it was convenient, affordable and had a large of selection to find what I was looking for, Also, it was easy to find parking.
- Pros: price, service, selectoin

The Scene
Not your ordinary outfitter, this spot is a nonstop, year-round party. People in search of Santa suits, lucky leprechauns and murder-mystery purveyors select from prepackaged or rentable frocks, while tactile toys--from angel wings to weapons--elicit "oohs" and "ahhs" from all ages.
The Goods
Whether you want to look like a pimp daddy or peculiarly garbed bishop, vampire or phantom, this shop has you--literally--covered. Ladies looking to hook up might opt for the devilishly clad belly dancer, cabaret or cheerleader costumes, while those going for the wholesome approach should consider an Arabian princess pantsuit. Kiddie costumes transform young ones into everything from Shrek to Spider Girl. Costumes are available for rental and sale. Eye masks offer a secretive touch, and metamorphosis-worthy makeup is ideal for those with the inclination and time.
- Pros: Wacky selection
- Cons: Tough parking
