Birthday Tradition
by EmmaGoldman at Citysearch
This will be the third year we are going for my birthday. We love having a tradition and we love the atmosphere, wine and VEGETARIAN selection that this place offers. And the birthday cake, if i remember correctly- a bread pudding smothered in a carmel sauce is to die for.
Worth the Drive

We decided to try this restaurant rather than the old stand-bys, Taylor Street etc,...& really glad we did, friendly staff from start to finish. We had five people and still were seated after only a short wait on the outdoor patio,...once seated (we stayed outside in the back patio) the server, although busy was attentive enough that there was never a glitch...do not expect the "get you in get you out" treatment at this venue, we saw people that were there for quite a long time just enjoying the evening it's a comfortable, casual easy going don't rush you place, with great spaces for relaxing drinks & great food, so if your looking for a change from the Taylor Street hub-bub...Rose Angelis provides A Friendly, Great & cozy place with some of the tastiest food the we had ever eaten, & we eat out a lot ! we would be going back tomorrow but we have doggie bags for the week ! Total tab including drinks for five people $145 + tip A bargain ! & that included three after dinner sweets that could have been just one when you saw the size. .... So all-in-all, I'm sure in a city the size of Chicago you may be able find a better restaurant, & maybe better food, but it won't be easy! This is a Gem !
- Pros: Loved it !!!
- Cons: none
needs a lot of work

The food there is always great as are the servers.. the rest of the help I can't say the same for.. A bus-boy went to fill my glass of water (mind you I've worked in the service industry most of my life) he didn't pick up my glass..dumped water all over my food.. the table.. my nice suit.. and the floor.. and didn't even offer a napkin. I almost just walked out, but t wasn't my server's fault. I will not be back again.. It was my favorite spot to eat when I was up in the city. Very dissapointed in this nice little restaraunt.
- Pros: great specials, nice ambience
- Cons: getting soaked by the water boy
Good atmosphere

My fiancee and I went for New Years Eve dinner. The food was good, but not fabulious. The food was overpriced given the quality.
Great food and wonderful atmosphere

This is a classic Chicago spot. Well at least in my mind. They have great food. I've gone here 15+ times over the past few years and have never been disappointed. Great food in conjunction with a wonderful atmosphere. You can't go wrong. FYI, you need reservations and still expect to wait a little bit. Have a glass of wine in the waiting room or go to the bar across the street. It's well worth the wait.
LOVE IT!

This is probably one of my most favorite places, ever! The serivice is amazing, the food is delectable, and the wine list is extensive. I can't think of a better date place; this is where my husband and I had our first official date! Besides the fact that Rose Angelis has a special place in my heart b.c of this fact, it also does have the best food I have ever tasted. The gorgonzola, grape and walnut tortellini is exquisite. So rich and filling, I have eaten off of it for 3 days! Best value and great food...plus romantic....definently check out Rose Angelis. You will not be dissapointed!
- Pros: Food, service!
- Cons: Can get a little loud on a Saturday night...ask for a quiet spot
best date place in the city

For me, i think the best restaurants are those who take common dishes and do them really well.
I have been a fan of Rose Angelis since i graduated college in 99. Some of the best hearty italian food I have ever had. Always try to order off the specials which are usually great. The vegatarian menu is great too for those type of people.
the only question mark is service. it used to be great, but now it is hit or miss and i am not sure why
- Pros: great food, great value
- Cons: parking, hit or miss service, long waits on weekend
Delicious Italian with charming atmosphere!

This quaint neighborhood restaurant is a diamond in the rough. I have been coming for years and have introduced several couples to it. It is an excellent choice for vegetarians, as there are only a few meat entrees on the menu. Nobody we referred (including the meat lovers) has been disappointed. There can be a wait on the weekends, if you have a group over 4, I suggest having an early dinner between 4:30-6. If you like Italian off the beaten path of spaghetti marinara, this place is for you! ALWAYS listen to the specials, and save room for dessert. Fresh grated parm, pepper, and spiced olive oil w/bread are fantastic, but pace it. The entrees are gigantic, so share, or take home. The waitstaff are knowledgeable, friendly, and add to a wonderful dining experience!
- Pros: Excellent Food, Friendly Waitstaff, Romantic Atmosphere
- Cons: Parking
Reminds me of the food I ate in Italy!

Such fresh pasta! I have tried other dishes but always go back to the pasta because it's always the best. Adorable decor, very hospitable staff. One waitor I've had several times has been there for years knows the menu in and out and makes great recommendations. Always a safe bet for my vegetarian friends as well, which is an instant bonus. Desserts are ridiculously good. The Italian Bread pudding is delicious and HUGE- can be shared by 3 or 4 people, especially when you've just filled up on pasta!
- Pros: freshness
