Dee's is below average folks
by KBBBB
Not even close to good, subpar for sure.
We thought we'd give Dee's a shot, they're in our new neighborhood. I read over some of the reviews prior to eating Dee's and found that I do not agree with a number of the more positive rated reviews. It seemed that there was a lack of flavor and freshness.
We try out new restaurants often and of course we have our favorites. In this genre, we prefer Ben Pao- real good food. Even the chicken fried rice at BP is fantastic. Sometimes, it's better to stick with your favorites.
We will not order from Dee's again.
Fresh chicken!

This restaurant uses fresh, as opposed to frozen / packaged, chicken. The food tastes much better than the other Chinese take-out restaurants that I had frequented. The entrees cost a few dollars more, but the extra quality is definitely worth it.
dees - best chinese food in chicago
by rakeshk
to the lady who had the horrible experience with the hostesses, i am in a room with a group of people and read your rant to them, and no one can believe someone as whiny as you exists - what happened to you is not a big deal whatsoever, a simple mistake and the fact that you had write a negative review when you normally don't write reviews is simply pathetic.
i love dees since the first time i tried it, i think the szechuan beef is the one of the best dishes i ever had anywhere. one of the reviewers recommended the sesame shrimp - never had it, but i am looking forward to trying it tonight.
- Pros: szechuan beef and all food in general i really think its the best chinese in chicago, so fresh and flavorful
- Cons: not best atmosphere
WORST HOSTESSES EVER!
by adayung
I never write reviews, but I was so mad about my experience at Dee's recently. My reservation was made over a week ago and I checked the day of to make sure it was ok. I arrived for my reservation 2 minutes after my reservation time. I asked if I was the first person and they said yes. I waited for 20+ minutes. Finally a woman asked if I was with the large party in the back. I looked and everyone was there waiting for me to arrive (since i organized the dinner). I was SHOCKED and ABSOLUTELY FURIOUS, although I didn't make a big scene in front of my guests. Food is good, I have to admit, but this place left a sour taste in my mouth and I'll have to rethink to come back. If a guest has the courtesy to make a reservation, he/sheshould not be given wrong information and left waiting. The hostesses were so caught up with their carry-out orders, they don't even care about guests who actually come in to dine. AWFUL!
- Pros: Food
- Cons: WORST SERVICE, DON'T BOTHER MAKING RESERVATIONS, THEY DON'T CARE
Always a winner

I really enjoy Dee's evertyime I order it. I have only had it delivered, but am looking forward to eating at the restaurant in the future. The sesame chicken is great, lots of fresh broccoli and great flavor. My favorite chinese food in the city.
- Pros: Prompt Delivery, Consistently Great
Great place for Friday night dinner with jazz
by axelmolotov
A friend had recommended the place for great Chinese delivery and take-out. Indeed, the food was good, but we were most pleasantly surprised by the romantic ambiance. The decor was a bit random, but it was enhanced by dark mood lighting and a working fireplace. There is plenty of space for larger parties, as well as sushi and regular bar seating. There are also comfortable booths for two or three tucked away from the larger dining room. We sat at one of those booths, only steps away from a live three person jazz band that featured piano, guitar, and stand-up bass. The music varied from original pieces to their own renditions of Christmas favorites.
The food was delicious. Although it was swimming in sauce, the Tuna Tataki offered a generous portion of tuna with onions, tomato, and avocado. The cold noodles were wonderful, and so was the scallion cake. For our entree, we split the sushi and sashimi combo, which included tuna, salmon, flounder, and mackerel and offered no ground for complaints. The salmon was outstanding. At bill time, the entire meal for two along with two glasses of wine and two beers was just under $70.
All in all, although it may not compete for sushi perfection with places like Toro and Coast, Dee's provided great sushi at an affordable price. I will definitely go back, especially on a Friday night to relax and enjoy some great jazz.
- Pros: Great atmosphere for a romantic/relaxing sushi dinner, live jazz
- Cons: Disjointed decor

Whole Fish is the Best in the City. A Must try! Service and atmosphere wonderful.
by mrjustice
After a 16 year hiatus, couldn't wait to try one of our old favorites again, Dee's Sezchuan food. Wasn't dissappointed. Dee still has the best whole Fish anywhere in the City. If you've never had whole fish, try it you'll love it -- especially here. Kung Pao style is deep fried Red Snapper, spicy to taste, with mounds of chinese vegetables and great sauce. Cost is $30, but it is HUGE - enough to feed two people easy. Also enjoyed the Pot-Stickers, which are light & tasty. Dee even remembered us after being away for 16 years. Service is impeccable, and atmosphere in her 'new' locale (new for us), is even better then the old place. Bigger, stylish, and now she has added a Sushi Bar. Tho we didn't try it, it sure looked super fresh. Can't wait to dine out on her new patio this summer.
- Pros: Whole Fish is the best in the City. Excellent Szechuan food. Service Impeccable. Atmosphere warm & stylish.
- Cons: none
Awesome.

This place is awesome and with few decent chinese restaurants in the area, its a real gem. Definately recommended. Also, I think its not very respectful to take food from elsewhere into a different restaurant.
Relaxing, reasonably priced, fresh tasting and enjoyable food!

Some of the best chinese/asian food around Chicago! And the host, Dee herself, is one of the most hospitable people you can meet. Very friendly place to eat for family, business and groups. Can see right into clean kitchen through window off dinning room. Great bar area and deck area if you like to dine outside.
It's my opinion that it would be bad manners to bring food or drink from other vendors into a resturant of any kind.
